Trump threatens additional tariffs on $200 billion of Chinese goods

The White House said Monday evening that if China goes through with its promise to retaliate against the US tariffs announced last week, the United States will impose tariffs on an additional $200 billion worth of Chinese goods.

Thoughts on whether China will back down?

They will tell the world they won't back down, but in reality, I think they'd talk to Trump and work out a good deal for both countries.

Debt in china is actually extremly leveraged right now and something like this could spell a disaster for them.

It won't be easy but now is the perfect time to confront their predatory trade practices.

I don’t know where this will lead but there are other tools besides tariffs. For example, China could back down and remove tariffs on U.S. soybeans but then quietly direct Chinese companies not to buy U.S. soybeans. Same result as tariffs.

I'd expect China to start buying oil from Iran.

China won't back down so Trump is playing a dangerous game.
