My question is valid and if someone who knows the answer that is not reading into the article will respond that would be great. If you just want to argue please refrain.

I can't tell from this article if the abstinence-only was required to be a PART of the program or was HHS requiring it replace the program? If HHS wants the abstinence info added to the existing program what is wrong with that? More info is better than less.
The article is not that clear on that point but what I see is they wanted some funding directed specifically towards abstinence in addition to STD, prevention and education.

Abstinence is part of the current program - it's the only 100% effective form of birth control. But the program is realistic and informs them that if they decide not to abstain, here are the options.
As per the linked article: The Trump administration in April announced it would remake the program to push abstinence-only counseling.

Abstinence only counseling is the definition of insanity, hard to believe this is HHS and not some religious organization.
There is only one method of birth control that is 100% effective. That is abstinence. Every other method fails from time to time. Does the OP object to the promotion of the only 100% effective method of birth control??
Granted, it's more than a little hypocritical for this to come from the Trump Administration. End of the day, abstinence is still the best idea out there and it doesn't matter who is advocating for it. A good idea is a good idea, period. But definitely pretty hypocritical.
Tough issue to decide which party to root for. Abstinence-only is an idiotic policy, but Planned Parenthood's roots in racism and eugenics makes me want to root against them.

We will never gain perfection the thrust is reduction. The US is well below average compared to other civilized nations and abstinence education only is a losing proposition.
Why is Planned Parenthood suing? Are they upset that if less kids have sex, there will be less abortions which means that they can't buy as many Lamborghinis? Plus, without those profits, they can't lobby for as many Democrat candidates and help organize as many anti-gun marches!
Care to point that out in the article? I can't seem to find it.
Adding a focus on abstinence-only is not the same as replacing the entire curriculum.
