Because you should have freedom to espouse hatred against peaceful people based on mythical religious beliefs? For what purpose? Why should this be tolerated in a peaceful and lawful society?
According to The Federalist, the "safe sex" pamphlets "stated homosexuality is associated with sexually transmitted diseases, including HPV of the rectum." This, of course, is true, as evidenced by statistics from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control. The pamphlets also included criticism of Liberal party politicians, decried "Ontario’s 'perverted sex education curriculum,'" and categorized homosexual activity as sinful, while simultaneously offering salvation for such acts through Christ.
The literature "did not call on anyone to hate homosexuals, or advocate violence, or claim that all homosexuals are pedophiles," notes The Federalist.
Please tell me why we should read something from a USA propaganda pop-up website when there are several authentic Canadian news outlets that have published the truth?
"The Daily Wire is an American conservative news and opinion website founded in 2015 by political commentator Ben Shapiro."

Exactly what these LATEST pamphlets said I am unable to find, but it must have reached the tipping point for him to be charged...again.
If his history is anything to go by, he has in the past stated homosexuals were pedophiles, back in 2013.
“It delegitimizes homosexuals by referring to them as filthy or dirty sex addicts and by comparing them to pedophiles, a traditionally reviled group in society,” wrote Rothstein."
This is true. Yet, two years after the event they thought it appropriate to arrest him.
It took 2 years because the police had to liaison with the prosecution. These charges are not taken lightly and everyone makes sure all their ducks are in a row.

All websites are opinion sites. "authentic" news outlets always report with their own bias. Even ones in Canada.

That's really funny. Two years to read his pamphlets and decide if it was a hate crime?
Maybe they should focus on real crime rather than trying to control speech.
But the key is that hate can be whatever you choose it to be. So if you disagree with somebody and publicize it, you can be charged with promoting hate.
There is a legal definition for a hate crime or promoting hatred. That is the thing about laws, they are written down and defined by Parliament not someone who is on the web just guessing.
