She lives there. Why shouldn't she?

In L.A it might be like saying you are from Watts but then grew up mostly a high income suburb in Orange County.
Outside of the fact we have already dismissed the idea that she moved to a high income suburb. Even today the average household income is just barely over $100,000. If there are high income earners there, it means there are some pretty poor people also.

$100,000 anywhere near NYC is not going to get you very far today.

It's possible there wasn't enough money in other accounts to cover the mortgage so it went into foreclosure which can last a long time before the bank takes ownership/forecloses. Often a home is sold before the bank officially takes ownership even though foreclosure was started. In this case the home shows as sold in property records.

NY intestate succession when no will.

Yeah, I saw that yesterday. Nowhere in the piece to my knowledge does it say that she lived more than half her life in northern Westchester County, including the bulk of her childhood and that she graduated high school there.

However, since she has been living in the Bronx again, I guess you can say it is technically true that she is a local Bronx girl (although not to Queens residents - she knocked out a long time Queens Democratic Congressman). She also seems to have been an impressive student.

I wonder if the author, Maureen Dowd, leave out the Westchester background as an oversight or did she do it deliberately because it would partially deflate the rags to riches story?

Rise up, all of you under employees barkeeps. Err, millennials. Reminds me of some of the Tea Party candidates who snuck through. Time will tell. At least the socialists were not dumb enough to spend $30 million on a race, only to lose, like the Dems did in Georgia. Hey, it showed they could resist though. Just not very smartly.

$30,000,000.00 for one congressional race. Reminds me of the gazillions Madam Secretary spent on her 3,000,000 irrelevant votes.

Lol an average household income around $100,000 is high . For the US it’s about $55,000 so the average she was living was not a poor suburb z

In the Bronx it’s about $35,000.. huge difference.
Real estate is expensive even in the Bronx relative to the US average but tons of people are able to live there do to the existing welfare /social programs in NYC .. and she wants more of that welfare .

While Bronx household income is low there are millionaires that live in the Bronx too ..

Yes I wonder too . I mean you would think someone writing for the NYTimes would have the research skills and resources to figure these things out..

It would be really easy (and truthful) for her to say she was born in the Bronx, raised in northern Westchester County, attended Boston University, then moved back to the Bronx where she currently lives.

It’s kind of like when rich celebrities like JayZ sell victimhood after just buying an $88 million mansion and being worth about $1 billion or so with his wife .

I don’t like the message of “yeah well I am X and became successful but you guys are victims so you need this government program and that program “

Not too inspiring a message
She didn't hide that she spent a large portion of her childhood in Westchester. In fact she made a point to contrast the different opportunities someone has based on what zipcode you grow up in.

She never stated she grew up dirt poor or anything like that, she stated she came from a working class background. Based off where she was born, where she has lived the last few years and the small modest home which was linked to earlier in this thread there is nothing to indicate otherwise.

I didn't say it was poor. I'm not the one misrepresenting things.
