An Alabama man was allowed to keep his guns after his ex-wife asked a judge on two separate occasions to remove his guns due to prior domestic abuse and threats.
The judge allowed the man to keep his guns.
The man used those guns to kill his ex-wife and 2 others.
Darwin Brazier, 43, of Ardmore, used a semi-automatic SKS rifle with a high-capacity magazine to shoot and kill his ex-wife and two other people before killing himself.
Debra Rivera had twice attempted to get a judge to order Brazier to surrender his weapons because of alleged abuse. The requests were rejected both times.
As sad as this story is, an estimated 45 people are murdered in the United States every day. Many of which are being committed by people with prior criminal records.
Yes, it is very sad, and my prayers are with their family. And yes, something needs to be done to help keep repeat felons off the streets. But this happens every day nationwide. I bet 80% of the murders that happened in America over the past 48 hours were committed by people with criminal history. Any particular reason you posted this specific article?
It does. But only upon conviction, or while under a restraining order. And people can appeal that.
I think we need them confiscated until after a court appearance.
And no appeals at all. Too many people have been killed this way by people who are unhinged.
If a person wants to keep their gun rights, they won't be abusing their partners.
If they go to court and are found not guilty, they can have their guns back.
If they are repeatedly in court over it, we need a 3 strikes system.
