From the article:
KENNETT SQUARE, Pa. — Amid all the anti-immigrant fervor, nativists have overlooked a fundamental fact: In recent years, Mexican immigrants and their Mexican-American offspring have been rescuing the most iconic places in America — its small towns.
And it actually makes sense when you think about it. Many Mexicans come from smaller centers, many agricultural plants are in rural areas, it is less expensive to live in those areas, and often the towns are very welcoming to anything that helps their economic base.

It kind of goes contrary to all the anti-immigrant talk.

An interesting read.

That's cool, I think most of us are all for (LEGAL) immigrants. But liberals seem to think "immigrants" and ILLEGAL immigrants are the same thing.

I see. So why is the Trump administration trying to reverse the citizenship of naturalized citizens?

There is no anti immigrant fervor!!!!!!!!!

the concern is illegal entry/illegal aliens.

Needs must be assessed for front door entry and no citizenship attached. As trump stated!

Why is the 'Mexican government' not embarrassed that millions would flee that country??????????

Why does the media not refocus its energy to highlight the problem in mexico that causes millions to flee that country??????????? It would be a benefit to all those the media pretends to defend. Liberals never seek to solve problems, just nurture them for future use in forwarding a political agenda.

Annex Mexico!!!!!!

I started reading the article but stopped when I saw major factual errors. It says the Mexican immigrant population has shrunk in part due to many deportations. Immigrants are not being deported. Illegal aliens are, but the article doesn't mention them, only immigrants.

Small towns do welcome immigrants, but that's a world of difference than welcoming illegal aliens. The NYT needs to start fact checking their stories. Immigrants are here legally. Illegal aliens are not.

I actually think you have it backwards. Republicans tend to think all immigrants are ILLEGAL. See the discussion on these boards for the past two weeks vilifying asylum seekers.
