Actually, this wasn't the brink...it happened and is done with.

Sure, some family farmers remain...but now with this "immigrant thing" many of them are going to call it quits.

But we are fooling ourselves if we think a reasonable percentage of what we eat comes from Ma and Pa Kettle.

Global trade is nothing new. People in the USA have been eating bananas, coconuts and citrus and many other crops from abroad for CENTURIES.

The very idea that people think it is otherwise is fantastic.

Meh- let the fools suffer their consequences. A good shake up in Ag is overdue.

Let prices rise, morons go broke, and I’ll plant some more zucchini and harvest an extra deer, lol.

From the Trump Fractured Fairy Tales:

And this little piggy didn't go to China!

And this little piggy stayed home!

And this little piggy had roast beef!

And this little piggy had none!

And this little piggy went weee, weee, weee, "Bacon is 99 cents a lb at the supermarket and Farmer Gray, wearing his MAGA hat, hung himself in the barn!

See kids, there is a happy ending!

Nailed it!

We can set up trade schools and start them out as welders, plumbers and carpenters.

An HVAC company around here charges 160 and hour and gets it....carpenters start at about $50.

There is a reason God commanded his people (Jews and Muslims) to be careful of that pig meat....

What a shameful thing to say. Democrats are salivating over the thought of Americans losing their jobs and livelihoods. You are lucky to live in a prosperous country where produce is cheap and affordable for all. People have to work and make sacrifices so you can enjoy this privilege.

Dump all subsidies. This includes farming and energy alike. Dump big pharma, subsidizing college professors for ridiculous studies. All of it. No welfare to any industry.

In the global economy this might work if all Countries did the same.

Quote:
China spends more money on agricultural subsidies than any other country in the world. Spending on agricultural subsidies peaked in 2015 when US$248 billion ($316 billion) was transferred from the Chinese treasury to farmers. Chinese farmers are not overly reliant on agricultural subsidies, as government transfers as a percentage of revenue remain low, particularly compared to Japan and South Korea.
Agricultural Subsidies in China: Increasing Mechanisation, Cutting Waste and Cleaning the Environment - Future Directions International

Personally, I think it's a pipe dream (free-market fundamentalism).
