Um...pretty sure you have that backwards. If there *was* a strong welfare system, this family *wouldn't* have had to break up.

People also get married to get health insurance and that's a wrong reason for getting married. A woman who doesn't have good health insurance or has no health insurance traps a man into marrying her because he has a job that provides great health insurance. Then they usually end up divorced.

I've also heard of kind men offering to marry some poor woman who has cancer but bad health insurance. Again, not a good reason for marriage.

Everyone should have their own health insurance. You pay in small amounts all your life so it's not a big hit if you suddenly get a disease or are in a bad accident. Everyone chips in. Both parties need to get together and fix the health insurance fiasco.
I hate to ruin your misogyny party here but my sister's ex married her for her military benefits and the free ticket to Hawaii. While she was deployed in Afghanistan he emptied her bank accounts, found a new woman, took the dog, and bailed.

It goes both ways.

If you have health insurance then you are already paying for other people’s health problems. If you make claim then other people are paying for your health problems.

What happened to this people in the article is wrong. Nobody should have to divorce to cover kids medical bills. Heath care is a right and the government should be covering it. Health care should be free and for all, like it is in Europe and Canada and so other many countries.

I know there are many conservatives on this forum. I want to hear their opinion.

Let me preface with my passion for Universal Healthcare ( not necessarily Single Payer).

Healthcare is not a right in the US. The ACA was a baby step in the direction of Universal Healthcare.

Healthcare is not free anywhere, including Europe and Canada. Can’t imagine why you seem to think otherwise.

As to this particular situation. Wolf- Hirschhorn Syndrome is a rare genetic disorder. From a developmental standpoint, the 6 year old is a newborn and requires 24/7 care. There is no cure. Quality of life will not improve.

All things considered, seems to me the most compassionate thing would be to let nature take its course.

Lots of people probably get married for the wrong reason. You are right in that it works both ways. But why give them ANOTHER wrong reason to get married.

Your sister's ex was a rat, slimebag, scum of the earth. (Right up there with my ex.)

Which is why everyone should pay for their own risk.

Health care costs are lower in Canada than in the US. Lower premiums, no co-pays, no annual deductibles. So your fears of increased costs because you are paying for others are unfounded.

All insurance mutualizes risk. This includes auto, term life, liability, property, casualty, pet, boat, travel, sport, farm, flood, Workers Comp and so on. Insurance makes the world go around.

They may be better off just moving to a state that isn’t overrun with illegals soaking up Medicaid for their anchor babies.

If you are talking about insurance then you are paying for other people's problems and they are paying for yours. You buy health insurance hoping that you get more from it than you put in. The alternative is to put $500,000 aside to cover future health issues.
