Trump said the opposite, he said a soft Brexit (which is what Theresa May has opted for) where the UK doesn't leave the EU fully could hamper the prospect of a UK Trade deal. Trump much prefers Boris Johnson who he has praised and who may launch a leadership bid, Johnson being an outspoken critic of the EU who wants a full hard Brexit. A hard Brexit would be one where few of the existing ties between the UK and the EU were retained leading to more disruption than a Soft Brexit which would see the UK leave the European Union but stay as closely aligned to the EU as possible.
In reality Trump wants the UK to break away fully from the EU, and wants to help break up the EU.
Trump has never be a fan of the EU, NAFTA, NATO, UN, G7, WTO and numerous other international bodies and trade deals.

Trump should really have stayed out of Brexit as it's UK Domestic Politics and his intervention has been seen as a stab in the back to Theresa May.
