Some family members lose an idiot who made a number of bad decisions.
No one knew he didn't have a permit. (If indeed he didn't) which means he can tell them to bugger off as they had no reason to ask for it.

He was never assaulted, he was questioned. He had something to hide so he resisted and paid for his resistance with his life.
Stop trying to defend his un-defensible actions, he was 100% in the wrong, the police were 100% in the right.

Reports say the victim didn't have a gun permit but was wearing a gun in public.
That's like asking for trouble. Who does that?
Simply put your hands up and let it go from there. Had he done that, it's likely that he'd be alive today. Perhaps in jail, but alive.

When you have a legal permit to carry, you are required to tell any questioning officers immediately that you are carrying and that you have a permit, if you do, all the while keeping your hands in plain sight until the officers have checked you out and cleared you.
When you are pulled over for a traffic stop, or for any reason you might encounter cops, you have the legal responsibility to immediately tell them that you are carrying.
However, he did not have an open carry permit, so everything he did was wrong. His mistakes have been remedied.

You've been told many times, Illinois law permits the stop if a suspect is known or suspected to have a gun. Why do you keep ignoring that???????

Because it doesn't. They would then spend every working moment checking permits or wasting their time.

Illinois law states during an investigation of an illegal action. Walking down the street is not.
