Right, because there is no way in the world Iran would attack them..right?

Iran hasn’t attacked a country in over a century. The US has attacked 100s of countries over the same period.

Well, at least the world gets something useful out of it, on balance. Iran contributes nothing of merit to the world beyond terrorist funding and religious extremism.

On the other hand, being the world's sole superpower, the US' stewardship and hegemony has resulted in a period of unprecedented prosperity and (if you can believe it) peace for the majority of the world.

The free market model exported around the world by the US since WW2 has resulted in unprecedented amounts of prosperity and a daily lifting of millions out of poverty.

The earth is the most peaceful it's - EVER - been. And much of that is traced to the use of American military force and the adoption of business to supplant war. This is true whether you believe it or not, or whether you prefer to cast the US as an imperial war machine.

Might be hard to imagine because of the 24/7 news bombardment, but it gives us a sense of how truly and terrible awful 99.9% of human history has really been:

Feel pretty safe that as long as Trump keeps up his
rhetoric USA will be the first place Iran aims , although more likely
Israel which if that happens ,you're right the world will
engage.

It’s more likely that he has videos of the 2003 Iraq War and its aftermath. You know...the one where we leave with our tails between our legs?

Yeah, you guys were yapping like this in the leadup to the Iraq War. Your yapping didn’t translate into any victory whatsoever.

Now 4500 troops are dead, and you still think that you’re saying something worth listening to.

When they took over the US Embassy, they sure did.

Indeed. At least one other person on this forum has a working memory of that shameful episode.

The question now is when do we pay them back for that cowardly assault and kidnapping of unarmed civilians?

And we'll likely never see a true accounting of how many will live out their lives with life-altering injuries. It's like Vietnam, people are content to believe a war's over when the shooting stops. Nothing could be further from the truth.

as for the OP, the iranian military is no match for the US military, and if iran does go to war with the US, they will get hit from two sides, since we still have forces in afghanistan. add to that the number of carrier battle groups that can be deployed to the area, and the bomber base at diego garcia, as well as guam, and iran will be begging for mercy after the war starts. they have the same chance that nk had, as long as the chinese stay out of any conflict with nk.

remember the iranian navy is basically a few gun boats, and a few diesel kilo class subs sold to them by russia. their air force is basically a few soviet fighters, a few grounded, for the most part, F14s we sold the shah, and they havent been maintained for decades, and their pilots have no real proficiency in any of the aircraft they fly.

a B52 can fly at stand off range, and unload a number of cruise missiles at iran, and if they do send up fighters, the navy and marines will clean their clocks.

4500 American troops are dead in Iraq. That’s how it eventually worked out years later. There’s your answer.

What you need to do is tell us what they died for, because I can’t come up with any good reasons. You can’t either as a matter of fact.

And if we invade Iran, we’ll take a worst ass kicking than we did in Iraq.

Stick your chest back in. You’d BETTER listen to Rouhani and quit letting Trump and Netanyahu gas your head up.

Forgive me for being sensitive but those beloved soldiers did do it for a reason. I am not a soldier so basically can't speak for them. But I believe they believed they were doing good and were willing to die for it. I couldn't stand it if we talked about them like their lives were lost or their legs were lost or their minds were lost because they did it for no reason. Their lives are not disposable.
The late Cpt. Luis Carlos Montalvan, author of "Tuesday" tells it like it is.
