Just because a criminal defendant might be granted immunity under the state’s 'Stand Your Ground' law, that doesn’t mean they’ll be automatically protected from potential civil repercussions, the Florida Supreme Court said in a ruling released Thursday."
"...in a unanimous opinion Thursday, the Supreme Court ... said a finding of 'stand your ground' immunity in a criminal case could not be used to block a civil lawsuit."
So go ahead, Stand Your Ground and shoot if you must. Florida law will protect you from prosecution and prison time. But make sure you're also prepared to lose everything you and your family has, including your guns, if the survivors bring a civil suit and win.
Anyone remember the story of that black kid that went to ask for directions at to his school, the home owners open the door and the lady calls her husband and he comes over with a gun? https://youtu.be/Hde9VLNTCuw
Yep... once you shoot that creep that is trying to kill you, you may as well shoot yourself as well. At least you'll go down knowing that particular predator won't be preying on anyone else ever again.

Yes! Juries should be driven by their personal opinions on gun control, not jury instructions, the facts, or the relevant statutes. Law, shmaw! MAGA!!!

Civil juries do not require unanimous agreement like criminal cases, sona couple of gun owners isn’t a guarantee. Not to mention they actually might be responsible gun owners.
Anyway, in this case, the guy was attack (Patel) by Kumar, unprovoked, and Patel responded by hitting Kumar in the face with a glass he was holding. I have no idea of any details other than that, but I am wondering what the details are as they wanted to charge Patel, causing Patel to invoke the SYG. I am having trouble finding a scenario where someone is standing there, gets attacked, responds by hitting someone with whatever object they are holding, but yet get in trouble for doing so.
As for the case, yes, it requires a different hearing because the pretrial does not allow enough evidence to determine immunity from civil.
But as a note; I have no idea why you all think SYG only has to do with guns...ever even read the damn law? Does not seem like it.

Not true, someone was shot in Fort Pierce and the family was awarded 4 dollars.
