Certainly an interesting move.

Maybe a Lawyer on this forum can help us out with Jury Instructions in a Criminal Trial.
The question of whether the Government has presented evidence sufficient to support a claim of bank fraud is a question of law, not a fact weighing inquiry. The reasonable doubt standard does not apply at this point.

Exactly, I wasn't expecting that. I knew Manafort wouldn't take the stand but thought they would have some.

A Kibby, your GOP preference is more cloaked and chipper than most trump supporters but it is coming through
I just think that the British Press tends to give more balanced reporting on BIG stories than the US Media does. All of them should JUST report and not make it all opinion. That's Journalism 101
Doesn't mean the British press "like" Trump, but it's not their job to "like/dislike" - job is to report.

As for me -- surely everyone should be aware I lean way Conservative -- fiscally. No cloaking.
I'm vehemently against Socialism and VERY pro Law & Order.
Those who follow closely should known I certainly lean to the Left on many social issues.
Government has ZERO business being in anyone's bedroom, I'm pro-choice - but not pro-murder or late term babies. I've voted both Republican and Democrat and make my decision in each race after doing a LOT of research. I've never given a penny to any party or candidate. Some might call me a committed Independent, but I will admit that Independence has certainly been tested these past few years.

Our country is in trouble - I make no secret that I believe Democrats have become dangerous.

I fully expected the Manafort Team to rest their case and go to closing arguments.
We will see how it goes.

Judge will get instructions from the Judge today and then Closing Arguments tomorrow (2 hours for each). Looks like the Jury will begin deliberations tomorrow or no later than Thursday.

Indeed it is.

Maybe they figure they've already got him dead to rights and it's not worth the risk? I mean, for goodness sakes, look at the mountain of evidence against him.

Over the last three weeks, the prosecution has:

- shown multiple bank accounts belonging to Paul Manafort in which he hid from his accoutants/book keepers

- questioned multiple accountants and book keepers who testified that they were unaware of all those hidden accounts Manafort had and that he said "no" when they asked if he had any foreign bank accounts

- showed tons of high-end material things purchased using bank transfers from those accounts

- Questioned Rick Gates, Manafort's long-time business partner, who testified that Paul Manafort and he "commited crimes together" and also said that Manafort sent him financial documents to alter.

Regardless of any of the hoopla and inappropriate behavior by the judge, this seems to be a pretty open and shut case for tax crimes. If this were any one of us regular City-Data posters and not the former campaign manager for a sitting POTUS, due to overwhelming evidence, we'd already be found guilty and on our way to prison.

That's too funny. You mention him as the former campaign manager for Trump but not as the contractor for the DNC that he was when he committed these crimes. "Neutral" my F'ing ass.

WOW!!!

This is really serious business - Jared Kushner is probably going to prison over this.
How many years in prison do you think he will get???

He is the very first close advisor of a President Elect who EVER got a Letter from a former Campaign Official that recommended several people for positions in the Administration.

FIRST letter of this type in the entire History of our Nation - Hang 'em High.
Everyone MUST read this Letter.

Yeah, I think there is a very high probability that Kushner goes to federal prison. Don Jr, too.
