Very good point. Gates knows that his only chance at getting a break is being 100% truthful. If Manafort's defense tries to suggest that he's lying on the stand they better have the goods to back it up. Otherwise it will backfire.
I think there will be little from Manafort's attorney to prove Gates is lying--because proving he is lying will likely incriminate Manafort even more...
Look at the physical evidence---
The accounts are there--they were real--not faux--and they WERE Manafort's
They were NOT on his income tax filings
What confusion is there about tax fraud w/that type of proof???
And Manafort's wife signed lot of those tax returns didn't she?
What is her exposure as being accomplice to tax fraud?
Is that a squeeze option Mueller or any other legal agency (NY state for example) have explored to compel Manafort to cooperate???
Nope, Manafort is saving that ace in the hole. He is going to wait until he is finally found guilty and then try to make his deal. Why would he do it now, when he thinks he will either be found innocent, or his buddy will pardon him ?
His attorneys are telling him to keep that bargaining chip for when it is really needed.
So I was privy to several of the conversations between the FBI agents who tried to convict Stevens I can't tell you how but they were toasting the fact that they were sure he was going to be convicted.
Well may be to you however unlike others I can take the risk. I'm hearing 70/30 for mistrial.
