I know what I think and it's simple and complex all at once. Just wondering what you all might think.

I did search and didn't find any other posts about this on the forum.

It was computer generated.

Computers are racist.

Does she think a human being has the job of creating passwords and emailing a temporary one to the customer so they can go in and reset theirs?

And is there evidence that she even got that as a password?

Calling it right now - hoax.

Assuming the system randomly generates 5 letter passwords only (since hers was a 5 letter word), with a mix of upper and lower case letters only, that is 52^5 possible combinations, or ~380 million possible combinations. The chances that a black woman and volunteer for the local NAACP would be the recipient of the 1 out of 380 million random password that would only offend a black person? Yeah, it's astronomical and requires numbers like "how many atoms are in the universe" size.

Occam's Razor says - HOAX.

EDIT - and if a human being sets a temp password, it is always something like "changeit" or "abc123" or something like that...per corporate policy in virtually every helpdesk environment in the country.

That's what I'm thinking. I think she didn't realize they were auto-generated.

But things have gotten so ridiculous that when I saw the word utility in the title I thought someone was saying their bill was racist for containing a reference to watts.

What if you get "myni**a" does that mean the computer thinks of you as a friend?

So do you think she faked the email? I would imagine she saved it. I would also imagine the utility company would have a copy and would show the original of she did.

I'm thinking it was an unfortunate accident.

By the way, plenty of people don't like racial slurs. It's not ONLY black people.
