A good read straight from the ground of an embattled state that voted for Trump.
In short, counties that voted for Trump are suffering more than ever. There are also other nuggets like: tax cuts hadn't done squad, liberal areas are capturing most of the gains (no surprise), Democratic counties are striving partly due to attracting immigrants, facing a crappy economy Trump supporters are abandoning the economy and rallying around guns.
Despite an otherwise robust national economy, the analysis shows that a striking number of Trump counties are losing jobs. The AP found that 35.4 percent of Trump counties have shed jobs in the past year, compared with just 19.2 percent of Clinton counties.
The jobs data shows an economy that is as fractured as the political landscape ahead of the 2018 midterm elections. As more money pools in such corporate hubs as Houston, San Francisco or Seattle, prosperity spills over less and less to smaller towns and cities in America's interior. That would seem to undercut what Trump sees as a central accomplishment of his administration — job creation for middle class and blue-collar workers in towns far removed from bustling urban centers.
Is the Trump economic house of cards starting to crumble?
One can only hope.
Meanwhile Kentucky's junior senator, Republican Rand Paul, is happily holding forth in Moscow with his Russian cronies and pals. Such a hospitable guy - he just invited them to come on over to Washington for a follow-up visit.
"Traitor" is one of the mildest things Paul is being called online just now. Education may have been lacking in Kentucky a few decades ago (it's better now, but that legacy has left its trace), but surely good old Kentucky horse sense will declare this sort of thing horse hockey and help boot Paul out of office when his time comes. Looks as if that may be sooner rather than later.
Also upcoming in Kentucky, Sarah Huckabye-Sanders will speak at a Republican to-do in downtown Lexington on August 25. Also present will be Mitch McConnell, Governor Matt Bevin, and Andy Barr.
Not to mention the number of patriots who are likely to be on the scene as well, with placards and signs, just in case the above quartet need any clarification of the message.
Rallying around guns? Sure. As if those guns are going to crap money out of their muzzle? Nobody is "rallying around guns."
Nope. This is straight from the horse's mouth. To be honest, many liberals saw this coming.
