No but Liberty University would likely high-ball him a scholarship...

Right. Liberty University is a christian school. It doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is.

I'm guessing Georgetown wouldn't have given a scholarship to a straight white male turned religious and who was dumped by his rich LGBT moms. Because well, he's not gay.

This isn't 1920. Wake up.
Did you miss where he was kicked out of his house?

You seem very angry that this kid worked his tuches off despite adversity and a well-funded college stepped in to offer him financial aid when it became known that he had not qualified for financial aid due to his parents.

The university I work for does this all the time when it finds out a student's situation has changed. It can't do it for everyone due to limited funds, but it tries to help where it can. I'm the one who sees GoFundMe and news coverage first and always forward it along to financial aid. About half of the time, we're able to help - and Georgetown has more resources than we do. Most elite colleges help.

In this case, it made news because in 2018 it's absolutely absurd that kids are still getting kicked out of their homes because of their sexual orientation.

That’s a Fact. The best gift a parent can give their child is to make sure they are not Trained in Bigotry.
Never forget that you might be training your own child that his/her Life is worthless and worthy of ignorant Hate. Many kids killed themselves rather than face the Hate from their parents.

Don’t guess.

They are a full need school. If the student could prove he was abandoned by his parents and it’s not a fraud just to get the school to pay, they’d meet his full need. They are obligated to do that for all accepted students.

The student would have to go through the process of getting officially emancipated from his parents, or present very compelling evidence this is real that allows them to act before official emancipation.

Your argument is invalid.

As I've said so many times over the years, colleges like stories and he has a great one. Co-Valedictorian, captain of the swim team, National Honor Society isn't anything special anymore - strong applicants with hose credentials are a dime a dozen. He stood out because he persevered after the incident and that is a great story.

Georgetown does not offer merit scholarships - they do need based only. I'm guessing that without the support of his parents, he can't afford school, hence the full scholarship.

There are 3 seperate Links in this thread about his story. Read them, and if you still don’t understand and have your questions answered ... then it may be above your Pay Grade.
Good Luck.

I fail to see the celebration of this over any other reason a teen and his family falls out.

Are there any other students who were given full scholarships in the same manner this year?

Or is he the only one?

And if this is a common practice by the school, why all the fuss? Since this is just normal school protocol, there should be zero coverage of this story. Right?
