It should be a crime. They should be arrested in my opinion.

They are stealing the American people blind and they will be the ruin of our country if
the lawmakers don't start acting more responsible...and it goes for both sides of the Aisle.
They spend like crazy, like there is no tomorrow, without regard to how much they actually have to spend....if people behaved like this, it would fast lead to bankruptcy.

There should be a law passed that the lawmakers have to pass a balanced budget like the rest of

the people who live in the US, and they should be mandated to start paying off/lowering the deficit a certain percentage each year....
It's ridiculous and it's irresponsible.

What ever happened to fiscal responsibility?

And keep in mind, this debt is intentional. They want to use it to justify killing off social programs that the majority of us will use during our lifetimes. The greed of the wealthiest is going too far. Its just as damaging as the poor getting too greedy would be.
What's upsetting is so many will not care.

How fortunate I would have been if I could have taken all the money I've paid to the government for "social programs" for forty years and invested it wisely. At this point, I'd have nothing to squawk about and no reason to give a damn what "rich people" are doing with their money. In fact, I might well have been one of them.

But because of lowest common denominator government Ponzi programs, I'm down here in the depths of despair with you. Well, actually not; I really don't care. And the reason I don't care is not because I am rich, but because I've never expected anything back from the money government has extracted from me over the years. Only a fool would. It has been nothing more than what I consider a fee for leading life outside of prison.

The fact that this is not properly understood is why we deserve the debts and deficits that we get.

It's not the tax cuts. It's the spending. The article says so.

The rising deficit is largely the result of the tax cuts President Trump signed into law at the end of last year, as well as a bipartisan agreement to boost spending, according to CBO.

Then it says...

The Trump administration has argued that the tax cuts would bring down the deficit, as economic growth led to higher tax revenue. The economy did expand in the second quarter by 4.1 percent.

The tax cuts did what they were supposed to do... which was increase the money brought into government. They got more money. The red above is wrong based on the fact that more money was brought in.

They simply spent more of it.

So if you want to blame whatever was in the spending bill, you would be correct. But it is NOT the fault of the tax cuts.

Reagan widely hailed for "cutting taxes" had to go back and raise them again because of revenue shortages. That came about in good part due to lack of federal spending cuts; something that has plagued nearly every post WWII POTUS that has tried to cut taxes.

Getting a tax cut through Congress is easy, especially when one party has control. The hard part comes in reigning in spending. There both GOP and DNC all have protected interests, loopholes, deductions, programs or whatever that they don't want touched.

In the end federal government does what it has always done, and continues to do so now; borrows the money to make up difference.

If there is a bright spot for His Orangeness and GOP is that the economy is booming along; that revenue is helping (somewhat) to mitigate the disaster caused by tax cuts without spending reductions. But if this changes, then everyone had better watch out.

This. The next inevitable recession will further decrease revenue.

The tax cuts will be the cause of a drop in revenue when the next inevitable recession happens. Tax cuts are stimulating on the one hand but work against when the economy slows down or goes backwards.

The rich are spoiled in this country that's for sure. When you have a government bought and paid for, you can do anything you want. Manipulate the public with the media and buy the politicians to do your bidding. Other countries around the world wonder why we continue to tolerate this system, but it's because the American people are confused and powerless....there is such an overwhelming force of daily propaganda and special interests pushing their agenda.

At some point we will have to deal with this budget mess our politicians have given us...but these promisers and spenders keep getting elected.

Sadly nothing ever happens in Washington unless or until there is a major crisis. Don't look for any meaningful bipartisan attempts to even remotely nibble at the budget mess.

Simpson-Bowles was the last meaningful commission charged with sorting nation's fiscal mess; and we know how much of what came out of that was ever acted upon.
