i never said anything about the first amendment now did i? stop trying to put words into my mouth. the problem with the mainstream media today is that they are heavily biased, either left or right, to the point where the truth is strained to the limit. another problem is that everyone wants to "get the scoop" on their competitors, and as such they dont do proper investigation into issues. htey hear something, and if it fits their narrative, they print it, if it doesnt they ignore it.

the press is not doing their jobs like they should. they should e the watch dogs for the people, not cheerleaders for the people they want in government. and we can all see, if we take the blinders off and really look at what is being said, the majority of the mainstream media is in fact far left wing, thus democrats get all the support and cover they need, and republicans get all the lambasting they can handle and sometimes more.

if the press was doing their jobs properly, then trump would not have 90% of the coverage about him being negative. and obama would not have had 90% of the coverage about him being positive. it would in fact be closer to 50/50 for both of them.

That makes no sense at all..how does the 1st amendment have to do with people pointing out the extreme dishonesty of the so called "Free" press? So if the press id being unethical and printing yellow journalism, no one is allowed to call them out? Really?

Billionaires vs. the Press in the Era of Trump
A small group of superrich Americans — the president-elect among them — has laid the groundwork for an unprecedented legal assault on the media

By Emily Bazelon

In the last few years, Trump has been joined by at least two billionaires who are determined to exploit cracks in the wall of defense around the press... They have sued or funded suits to defend reputations or protect privacy. But an underlying aim appears to be to punish critics...or even destroy entire media outlets.

This mistrust has been growing for a long time, but it was stoked by Trump during the campaign. He called the reporters who covered him “scum†and whipped up yelling and booing crowds.

the first thing any dictator does is shut down the presses, but i can tell you, that is never going to happen here in america, regardless of how much your esteemed leader would love to see them go away.

The founding fathers did not foresee that the media would become what it has today. The only way to save the press is to return to non-partisan objectivity over the broad majority of reporting. This not only includes coverage of elected officials, but of social issues. Everything else is a guarantee of the modern press's eventual demise, due to the need to cleanse the instituions of ideological corruption. The nation simply won't suffer such a corruption of our media institution forever. The press's bias is not limited to opinion pieces, but deeply permeates most of its reporting on most issues. This long predates Trump.
It sure does..

I deplore with you the putrid state into which our newspapers have passed, and the malignity, the vulgarity, and mendacious spirit of those who write for them. … This has in a great degree been produced by the violence and malignity of party spirit.

Didn't Trump do a fake news award where he himself cited specific examples? More fake news from you far left psychopaths; please, stop feeding the Republicans already, you make all of us on the left look bad with this bull.

Its very obvious that trump wants to destroy the free press as it constitutes calling him out on all his bs, however his base will give him a free pass on anything he does including destroying the nations institutions like the free press,FBI,CIA,NSA,DOJ, any opposition to his regime is seen as a threat. Until you can get through to his base as brilliantly exampled in post 2 trump will continue to turn America into a cartoon show a veritable laughing stock of the world led by the Mr MaGoo character bouncing from pillar to post drunk with the power of his position and status.

Free press just means the government can’t shut it down. It’s been perverted into becoming untouchable, which has led to widespread slander, lies, and complete disregard for any truth or real facts from the “media.” The current system should be dismantled and laws passed that allow individuals to easily sue the press for their lies.
