Many of these people (and for the record I am an extremist progressive) walk around with a mug on their face, so concerned about global warming, the oppression of transsexuals that want to invade bathrooms for which they are not intended, and for that matter the hole in the ozone layer. They refuse to be happy as long as these problems are not solved with someone else's money or inconvenience.

Well, I see it this way. If you have nation which constantly has to tell itself how great, exceptional and indispensable it is then it is probably not all that great, exceptional and indispensable. Truly great nations don't have to constantly tell themselves how alleged great they are.

If we are to say that the U.S. was never great, we might as well apply that to every nation/country that has ever existed.

since Trump appointed women as the head of the CIA and border patrol. Maybe Trump is working on what Cuomo wants. Or I guess in his mind Hillary losing automatically makes America a "Bad place" for women

Cuomo should read his FATHER"S OWN words about America.

We came from a nothing set of foreign colonies to become the most powerful nation in the world in a very short time period. While done imperfectly, (the whole slavery thing we inherited), we at least made a sporting attempt to embed individual rights into the basic design of the country. We provided an environment where anyone who really wanted to, and was was willing to put the effort in could succeed an not be tide down by old notions of class/caste (and this is still the case despite what the liberal whiners say.)
The world is a hugely different place from the time before the US become a major power to after, and largely for the better.

In the last few decades, though, we've gotten caught up in a lot of irrelevant issue, and have suffered from the negative side effect of too much success, largely that we've gotten soft, entitled, and uncompetitive. Getting rid of the those elements are what Trump means, (or at least should - who knows what actually goes through his head), by making America great again.

What is so great about America?

We aren't #1 in anything. Our health insurance system sucks. Our education sucks. We have a history of slavery, hate on immigrants, inequality. Our maternity leave sucks.

Clearly too, if Trump's slogan is 'Make America Great Again' ... that implies at one time we were not great.

NEWSFLASH: we still suck

I find your signature of "I'm not a little boy" quite ironic, you seem to be acting like one. Every country and every civilization in the world has something bad in their history, so does every person most likely, way to only see the negative.

And btw, its not "our" maternity leave, thats up to businesses and employers, has nothing to do with the federal government, I know plenty of places that have maternity leave policies that are great, even extending to fathers. Maybe if you werent so negative you would be able to see some of the many positives out there.

Is America a great country? Yes and no.

The U.S has a great gov't structure. It has a great economic system. Where it has lacked in greatness is how certain groups have been treated historically in the country. I'm sure you all know which groups I'm referring to.

The thing is that "great" is going to be very subjective.

James Woods tweeted to Andrew Cuomo with a meme. Some replies to that tweet will give you some chuckles.
