If things were "different" we'd be back to the good ole days when someone could get a job, buy a house and make more and more every year (no, not .10 an hour more)...

"If we have so many great jobs, why are wages not even up a tiny amount?"

They ARE!

This is a good article -

Overall, however, most economists believe the tariffs will be a job killer. The Tax Foundation estimates that the Trump tariffs will immediately result in the loss of 48,585 jobs and that job losses could number as high as 250,000 if Trump goes ahead with plans to impose new tariffs on another $200 billion worth of Chinese products.

The Trump job growth is also less than the last four years of Obama.
So, here we have it.

"Meanwhile, 3 million jobs have been added since Trump took office"

" most economists believe the tariffs will be a job killer"

Do you go with "have been added" or "believe"

I just love comments like "most (or fill in the blanks with ANY issue or group you want) economist believe? without NAMING them, because for every economist you can find who "believes, I can find one who DOESN'T believe.

They NEVER tell us what their RECORD in "predicting" outcomes is.

I'd bet MOST are college professors who have NEVER "worked' as a real economist, just theory.

Just like they say, "you can put 100 lawyers into a room and will NEVER get 100 to agree on anything.

People writing stories like this KNOW how each of these economist think and ONLY ask the ones they KNOW what their answer will be.

"What jobs?" etc.

We can tell those that only get their "news" from the alphabet "news" outlets.

They don't KNOW because their "news" stations haven't reported that employment is at record HIGHS.That black employment is at record HIGHS. That Hispanic employment is at record HIGHS, manufacturer's are HIRING, building NEW FACILITIES, etc. etc. etc.

And they are the HIGHLY educated and call us dumb!

Wrong kind of "progressive". It is a business magazine of some fame. It is not particularly political. And the references cited speak for themselves. Particularly the Tax Foundation.

According to fake news, maybe......but reality is a different story (as always)....

For most Americans, real wages have barely budged for decades | Pew Research Center

https://www.forbes.com/sites/erikshe.../#507807a54fd1

Most Americans

"The consumer price index was 2.8 percent higher this past pay May than it was the same month one year ago; that increase leaves real average hourly earnings for production and nonsupervisory workers (a.k.a. the vast majority of workers) 0.1 percent lower than they were 12 months ago."

So, lower....is now vastly higher. We get it.

And you continue to deliberately muddy the water.

The Tax Foundation is a pretty conservative organization. It is known for battles with Paul Krugman. It is not remotely liberal.

And the OP cites an opinion not fact.

It "seems to me" that these tariffs are the perfect reasoning why the DOW sits at less than it did 7 months ago. Without them we'd likely be pushing new records...

The economy is like a horse trying to pull the wagon. The roads are good, the wagon built right and the horse is healthy. But Trump decided to loosen a wheel....so we are delayed until the bolts are tight again and the wobbles fixed.

I think many "Everything Trump does is Right - no matter what" types fail to understand what reasonable people are saying. We (or at least I) don't say "this is a thermonuclear bomb which will turn everything into dust". Rather we say "there is little rhyme or reason and we'd rather have mature people setting long term policies and attainable goals"....

But that is like likely to happen when an entire admin is self serving...
Says the person who didn't criticize Obamas tariffs. Strange how tariffs matter now.

Trump is trying to force other countries hand. Don't know if it will work. He needs to get rid of all tariffs.
