came out to the PUBLIC...

The time line is much longer and we KNOW the Trumpers knew about it because they were taking counter measures...

You don't know that. A source close to Manchin has indicated he is inclined to vote yes unless more evidence comes out, because conservative WV overwhelmingly supports Kav's confirmation.

The same might apply for Heitkamp in ND.

Severals Ds voted for Gorsuch.

Somewhere in DC, Brett just locked himself in a room with a case of beer. (I think we're gonna need a stronger drink.)

If McConnell gets his 50 votes he'll say screw that agreement, we vote Tuesday.

Well let's be honest, the maniac is the biggest embarrassment in our current government.

Clearly, folks do make accusations for personal gain or attention. Nothing I've seen indicates that's the case here. Even many posters reserve their ire for how the Democrats have played it, for example the allegations that Feinstein leaked Ford's initial letter.

She was credible enough to testify. Republicans recognized that outright attacks on Ford during the hearing weren't going to play well.

But IF Kavanaugh attacked her those many years ago and then lied about it during the Senate hearings then he is is NOT qualified to hold a SCOTUS seat.

THAT has nothing to do with politics.

Either he did or did not.

Only Ford (and probably Kavanaugh if he was not too drunk or oblivious to remember her name and/or face) know for sure.

The rest of us, including the Senate, will have to take our best guesses.

And here, I get the discomfort that anyone in any circumstance could potentially make an allegation. That is potentially problematic. That this is playing out this way is partially a sign of the times for I can't help but think that in saner times Kavanaugh would have been asked to remove his name from nomination.

This may sound harsh but it is more important that the reputation of the SCOTUS and its determinations be held in high esteem than the reputation of any potential nominee.

Interesting...

The Democrats would love to see the Republicans act this idiotically. Any more nonsense?

Meanwhile in reality with people who are more reasonable.....A 1 week pause to do a FBI investigation is reasonable. I think Senator Flake got rattled when he realized the depth of feelings from people. Having multiple woman yell at you while you are trapped and worried they are angry enough to tear you apart like a angry mob can bring that to your attention. Its unfortunate the rest of the GOP doesn't recognize that.

Anyways if the GOP doesn't do a investigation now after the theater today, they're going to find out that you shouldn't push peoples sacred cows.

Yes, again what has that got to do with the fact that they don't investigate anything but federal crimes?

You do understand what a background check is, right?

The logical explanation for Dr. Ford accusing Brett Kavanaugh (if she is not lying as part of another Democrat scheme) is called psychological transference. She may have been assaulted by someone, but because Brett is a symbol of the 'evil' Trump administration, and the focus of such a contentious confirmation process, her mind could easily have projected her childhood trauma onto Kavanaugh as a result of her Trump Derangement Syndrome.
