I'm going to assume that some of it revolves around cigarette smoke and the associate toxins affecting not just the person smoking but everyone in the vicinity, too. The immediate effect of alcohol consumption is limited to the person drinking.

Not necessarily...if someone drinks too much, it can cause all sort of problems for other people nearby.
Similar to the recent 'bath salts' trend, as soon as those started becoming a problem, Govt and DEA acted very quickly to enact stricter laws on access, they were dangerous to people nearby as well
Because smoking has a pernicious, direct impact on those around the smoker, even at small quantities. The smoker smells like **** and stinks up the air. Second-hand smoke is a real problem.
A person sipping a beer doesn't have the same direct impact on others at small quantities. There could be indirect effects if they get drunk and mess with people, etc. but that can be mitigated by personal responsibility.
People that have smoked for years and people that were poisoned by other things, both have little white lines in their finger and toe nails...this indicates poisoning.
In the US, EVERY SINGLE can or bottle of wine, beer, distilled liquor, and even some brands of kombucha carries this warning.
You know, you've had plenty of time in the year since you started this thread and received this information to check this out for yourself. Are you lazy or what?
Maybe you don't live in the US?
