I like that she has an idea, but from my understanding of how things work this is not a good idea and the unintended consequences could be much worse than any benefits that would result from trying to artificially attempt to make housing affordable in this manner. I would much rather see tighter regulations on AirBnb rentals/flips, foreign buyers, and priority to residents who live or have an interest in living in the community. All of these will also have some negative consequences as well.
California's over-regulation greatly contributes to high rents. Cut some of the red tape and let more apartments get built and you'll see rents come down. Supply and demand.
Oh hell no. For her information, $1300 a month rent is pretty average where I live, although there is cheaper. Yet, nobody gets paid what they make in California. Georgia is one of the lowest paid states.
California taxation is the reason why the housing in California is unaffordable. My solution is that if you can’t cut it, then move. It’s what all the rest of us do.
It wouldn't be just for California - she wants Rent Control for the USA and has introduced a bill called "The Rent Relief Act". The Federal Taxpayer would have the honor to pay 30% of the rent for those that may/may not pay any Federal Taxes at all.

We are currently subsidizing the farmers . . so why not?
There is certainly issues but the general goal of the farming subsidies is to insure an adequate food supply and keep food prices stable during a lean growing season. Without them farmers would plant far less, when a lean growing season occurs food is scarce and prices go through the roof.
