50% of Americans have no investments in the stock market. You think these Disney employees have a 401k - HA. These people are just trying to pay rent month to month.
Sorry, but you are wrong. Try being knowledgeable before you spout off uninformed lies like the other people in this thread.
Nonetheless, it's still true that half of the country has no investments.
Technically you are also wrong about that, last I saw its either 52 r 54% who DO own stocks. But that should also be understood with the caveat that many people have no business owning stocks, those groups would be:
-Those with large debt
-Those who are well into retirement
-Those who don't have the stomach for market churns
-Those who don't understand the market and how it works at even the most basic level
In other words, we should never see 100% participation rate, no idea where it should be, but I'd be willing to bet somewhere around 60-80% makes sense on the above factors.

Actually those who have no understanding should buy index funds
Or perhaps greedy investors or the suits can take a paycut?
There are many stories of Disney workers that are homeless or living on welfare.
Someone is paying their welfare and I have seen many on all sides saying the government needs to do something about the homeless.
Well, here is a private business instead doing it.
If you think you can raise a family working at a merchandise shop at disney for $15/hr you are way behind the power curve. Not every job is supposed to be able to provide someone with a Lexus.
Actually those who have no understanding should buy index funds
Possibly, but only if they get help/advice from someone who does know what they are doing. I mean if you know nothing, and buy an index fund you can still make costly mistakes.
I work for a company owned by a Large Corporation. We have a decent 401k program, but its with Fidelity which kinda sucks. I would say 95% of the 8k employees have no clue what they are putting their money into. Not a single time has anyone from Fidelity visited any offices to give an overview of their products and answer questions. Considering we are forced to use them, they could at least educate their customers.
