White people in my town also once had their little grocery stores.

It was the perfect time to talk about black on black murders. That train passed when folks start bashing Trump at the funeral.

You want to bring politics to a funeral, don't whine when it turns too deep for you to stomach.

I hope we talk about 24/7 until it makes people so sick they will be forced to do something.

Sad

But they can damn sure be judgmental. Wonder why?
Judgmental of murderers? Damn straight. There are millions of black people who grew up in the same environment and didn’t murder anyone. There is really no acceptable excuse.

Easy, many people in the audience have been victims to black on black violence, directly and indirectly.

It is the biggest cause of of death for young black males.

There is never a good time to not talk about this.

Blacks generally don't support black owned businesses, this is a very big problem within the black community. Convenience stores are often owned by Koreans or Indians as well as guns stores, pawn shops, and liquor stores.

It's a combination of believing black businesses are inferior and not wanting other blacks to succeed in business

This is why the pastor longed for the day where blacks used to support their own schools, shops, eateries, etc.

The church is the scourge of the black community. It’s the bloodsucker of the race. It needs to be gone, and I’m gonna continue to do my part to spread the word about its evils.

That is quite interesting!

My understanding is that the Black church has historically been one of the institutions that has been at the forefront of the Civil Rights struggle - where most of the Civil Rights leaders originated from.

Considering that the "mainstream banks" have discriminated in the past and probably still do to some extent in regards to African Americans when applying for home loans, business loans, etc., it appears reasonable to assume that the weekly tithes and contributions that are taken in by the Black Church would definitely be of more benefit to African Americans if the funds are deposited in Black-owned banks.

Issues affecting the bloodshed in Chicago is multi-faceted - as any reasonable person will attest. As millions of African Americans migrated from the South to the North during the Great Migration, many times they were redlined and steered into certain neighborhoods. Couple that with a free flow of drugs, easy access to weapons, gangs that are primarily comprised of young men without positive male role models, the lure of "fast money", abandonment of a relationship with God, etc. etc.

Does that include the Nation Of Islam church?

If the person being buried was a victim of Black on Black murder, I would understand and commend the pastor for talking about it. However, this was not an appropriate time to talk about the subject. If the pastor talked about it during Bible study or as part of a Sunday sermon, yes, it would be appropriate, but he picked Aretha Franklin's funeral. Why her funeral, especially when her death had nothing to do with Black on Black murder? For crying out loud she died of an illness, not murder.
Conversely it was also not the place to drag politics into either and yet...
