If you want to buy a $300 pair of sneakers just because and athlete or celebrity is endorsing it, go ahead. It is capitalism. On the other hand smart people buy sneakers from companies with little or no endorsement at much lower prices.
I don't know why people keep bringing up $300 sneakers, as if that is all Nike sells. Or even something that Nike sells. The highest price shoe on their website is $295, and that is for soccer cleats. Yeah, playing sports is expensive, and most athletes aren't going to go cheap on their shoes.
Most of their "sneakers" are in the $100 range. The last pair of running shoes I bought were Nike, they were about $60 on sale. Yeah, I could go to Wal-Mart and buy something for a fraction of the price, but I'm not interested in destroying my feet in order to save a few bucks.
If the cheap shoes fit your needs, great. I buy what works for me, and what I think looks good. Its not based on some celebrity endorsement.
Tuesday. One day of sales. Big friggin deal. It would be amazing if a super controversial campaign like that didn't generate short term interest in the product. Let's see where Nike's sales are in a year.
So you think Nike's sales will plummet within a year because they made an ad featuring Colin Kaepernick? Are you really that upset over someone exercising their First Amendment rights that you'd wish a company to fail? It seems the ever so "patriotic" right wingers really aren't that patriotic after all.
I wont say if its false, but I also won't get behind it being 100% accurate either. Like I said in an earlier post, its pretty hard to separate this from the fact that the data was measured during peak back to school season, then compared to metrics from last year when since then Under Armor (a major competitor) has slipped quite a bit.
I'm sure this gave them some buzz, but I doubt it was a huge driver.

My bet is that Nike did their homework before starting this campaign.
They probably found out that the type of folks who hate Kapernick don't buy Nike products.
I guess the numbers are in. Nike Sales are up 31% on the Colin Kaepernick ad. The right wingers are way out of touch with America. So much for their feeble boycott.
And given the fact that these are the people who line up overnight for 250-buck sneakers, this is surprising because.....?
Gimmeabreak.
