As a Vietnam vet, the trash talking from Trump is mild compared to what we got. It doesn't bother me. That is part of what most vets fought to protect.
Yep, being spit on, called names, threatened and stuff thrown. Super hippy aholes. We defended our Country for this?
Theres a lot of crappy soldiers in the military, useless pos's that even mcdonalds wouldn't keep. I respect the person, not their service. I saw a crap ton of repulsive people in military and they just slid under radar doing bare minimal if that.
So no. automatic serving doesnt command respect, sorry pal.
Does that same argument apply for the left's attacks on GWBs service in the National Guard?
Taxpayers spent a lot of money training Bush to be a fighter pilot. He becomes one, then loses his wings because he failed to show up for a mandatory physical. He was negligent. Real pilots don't miss their medical exams, they just don't.
You don't have to LIKE or SUPPORT a vet's opinions, but you should still RESPECT their service - period.
Here's what Trump should have said, had he been a mature adult: How hard would that have been? And it would have avoided a bunch of needless bitterness. I don't care what disagreements you have - an adult doesn't go after another's combat record, especially when said insulter got out on "bone spurs" through rich family connections. But no, Trump has to go out of his way to be a baby.
Here's how you conservatives should have reacted to Donald's insult of McCain's service, if you were mature adults:
But he didn't. And you didn't. You all failed the basic test of decency, and that's why none of you deserves respect; nor do you deserve to claim how you "proudly support the troops" when your first test of vet support is a bitterly partisan one.
And yes, for the children out there - it's as wrong if a liberal does it as when a conservative does. No one should do it. None of this had to go down if we had an adult in office who had some basic boundaries of respect.
Mature adults who care about the truth don't try to equate Trump with conservatives. Your post doesn't deserve any respect. And neither do your progressive policies which are failures. Any wonder why you make things up and don't discuss policy?
As a veteran, I don't believe that military service should be off limits for trash talk. At all.
When the criticism stops, the military starts to rot at the stump and corruption sets in. Sometimes that criticism has to be very harsh to check the corruption, like acid kills rot.
Our soldiers, sailors and airmen are all volunteers now. It's a dirty job sometimes, but I volunteered too, and I knew what I was getting into. So do they.
But all of them are still human, and any human can go bad. The only thing that the military has internally as preventive medicine is honor, and it's strong medicine, but no medicine is ever strong enough to stop some people from going bad.
And when those people have some real power at their command, and are so protected that honor is just another tool they can use, and if Congress is so weak it won't face up to the job, then it's up to the citizens to do it.
So honor us, but do it with some wisdom and human understanding.
No one alive is a saint. Even saints make very bad decisions.
If civil criticism doesn't do the job, acid will, sometimes.
Because military power depends on the people to keep it's strength. Sometimes the military leaders have to know the citizens won't preserve their strength when they go bad.
That might take some mighty harsh talk to convince them, as soldiers are a rough bunch. But so far, our military has always responded and changed when the talk grew rough and loud and long-lastiing.
God help us all if we ever reach the day when talk fails.
Those who worship the military the most blindly will be the first to go up against the wall, awaiting the bullets.
Then why is it okay to trash talk Confederate soldiers?
