She threw a tantrum and now certain people are celebrating her poor behavior because she is black and a woman.
What's new? Dog bites man.
Rodney King leads police on a high-speed chase and endangers the lives of hundreds, proceeds to resist arrest, and becomes the new Martin Luther King overnight.
Millions rally to the cause of Michael Brown, who attacked a police officer and was shot for it.
Failed quarterback Colin Kaepernick with a career on life support refuses to stand for the flag to protest treatment of blacks in America despite the fact that he is a millionaire playing in a league of predominantly black millionaires. Get a Nike endorsment claiming that he "sacrificed everything" when in fact he kept his face in the limelight despite a complete lack of talent.
Black actors whine and hijack an academy awards protesting that Will Smith was not nominated for what was generally considered a poor performance.
Maxine Waters openly urging people to harass and attack Trump supporters.
We can go on with this all night, but why bother? Everyone knows, whether they admit it or not, that poor behavior amongst black people is celebrated by their liberal enablers. Black people are never, ever going to be treated with the same respect until they collectively shine their oppression light on themselves and admit that they are the cause of their own problems, and we have not even gotten into the gender aspect of this.
Stupid question from me... why is freedom to rage a positive? How did rage help SW over the weekend meet her goal of winning the championship?
If anything, she established the need for the the USTA needs to crack down on bad behavior on the court, for everyone. Harsher, more frequent penalties.
She has 23 majors, and she’s been a ball of rage her whole career.
What have you won? Maybe you should try a little rage for once.
She's definitely has the competitive fire that pushes her to great levels of tennis. Rage seems like competitive fire that has gotten out of control. Road rage is people out of control.
Look at it this way - using real fire. Fire is good when it is in control and channeled for constructive purposes like cooking food, making steel and iron, etc. Fire is destructive when it is uncontrolled. That's when it burns down buildings and destroys forests.
I understand people lose it sometimes, they just need to see the destruction they have caused and own it - and more importantly learn from it. For some reason, the person writing the article in the OP wants more destructive rage.
Think about it - the author in the OP is calling for the person, who controlled herself and beat SW, to act like the loser who was uncontrolled and destroyed herself in the match.
John McEnroe did the same thing. It happens. What makes it so intriguing to some folks is a black woman did it.
I agree.
All I saw was a great athlete lose her cool for a time, something thousands of athletes of all colors and at all levels have done time to time. Wow, she is human. Who woulda thunk it?
While more attention has been paid to how other feelings like forgiveness or love have been the moral underpinnings to African American social movements, this class makes an effort to look at the history of and value this more difficult but equally important African American cultural expression of black rage, one that is often maligned as a destructive and subject to hyper-surveillance and suppression.
