I miss a President who respected the law and the agencies of our government that enforce it. I miss having a President who wasn't some cheap business huckster who treats every action as though it were an opportunity for a "negotiation" of his. I miss a President who was knowledgeable about government and foreign affairs. I miss a President that valued our NATO alliance and didn't treat our friends worse than enemies like Vladimir Putin. I miss a President who realized Canada was a great friend and neighbor and didn't sell them out for the sake of a few dairy farmers. I miss a President who struggled to find a solution to the health care problems in this country rather than one who could care less. I miss a President who knew America was a great country and didn't carry on about how it needed to "be made great again". I miss a President that understood that America was still struggling to sort out racial issues and did not attempt to defend neo-nazis and the ku klux klan. I miss a President that didn't have to pay off women he had affairs with and than try to conceal the fact. I miss a President who didn't continually try to dodge giving testimony about the Russia investigation. I'm sure I could think of even more, but the reality is that our present President has deprived of us of the normality and stability that democratic regimes thrive in.

He is a goddamn disgrace.

Its a shame what we have declined too. Comrade Trump deserves Comrade Putin not the presidency of this great country.
Too bad there is more...

I also miss when I didn't realize there were so many Americans who could be so supportive of someone like Trump despite all that disappoints you and most of us not so nutty about all things Trump. Just reading so many of these comments and WHY so many Americans, too many, are pro-Trump. I didn't realize there was still so much backward thinking alive and well in America. Alive anyway.

But along these lines too, I am optimistic we will continue to make progress as America always has, even if painfully slow. Even if two steps (elections) forward, one back...

Some of the happiest people I have seen recently are the Trump cultists who go through life blissfully ignorant of where their leader is taking them. They have decided that the best way to get through their day is to fill their minds with populist blather to displace those inconvenient facts.

It was boring. Obama (great president or bad president) was boring. What did the right carry-on about? That Obama put mustard on his hamburger. /yawn Scandalous! Conservative talking heads had a field day with that. It was great. When I'd wake up and see that the biggest headline was what type of condiments our commander-in-chief used... I knew things were going to be just fine.

I feel like you can judge the state of the world by what the headlines are. Here's my metaphor between Obama headlines and Trump headlines... and it happened all in the course of one day.

One morning I was on my way to a college class and walked by one of those newspaper kiosks in NYC. The major headline... Michael Jordan was returning to basketball. He's an athlete. Not a world leader. It is a game with no real consequences. Just a pastime really. And this was in NYC and Jordan was famous in Chicago. But, the biggest headline of that day was an athlete playing a sport. That's it.

About 35 minutes later, a plane crashes into the WTC. And the headlines the following day pretty much read: Catastrophe. And these headlines continued for weeks.

That's how it is now. Obama was "yawn" and Trump is daily tragedy.
True. Remember when you actually had real press conferences instead of a constant barrage of tweets and sound bites about any subject that might come to Trump's mind in the middle of the night? Health care? Wait! I've got to tweet about Schwarzenegger first, and then there's the call from my lawyer about Stormy...

A clearer way to state this is that when you are accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression. For most of American history, the social/cultural norms promoted by white evangelicalism were more in line with where overall American culture was at. Over the past half-century that has changed significantly and there's no putting the genie back in the bottle without brute force.

That's what really concerns me about this current moment in history. How far will Trump supporters go to achieve their goal of turning back the clock 70 years? The Trump era so far has shown that everything is on the table and that is alarming.
What makes it particularly alarming is that the Trump supporters have big talk and the idea of razing our system to the ground sounds fantastic to them in a populist frenzy kind of way. But they are like children playing with matches; it all seems like good fun until the house is burning down around them. Fools.

I fear that if they can't have their white Christian 1950s Leave it to Beaver utopia, they will have no qualms about burning this entire country to the ground or at least allowing it to happen and we all will have to suffer tremendously.

Let me guess. Your snide little comment smells sweet as a rose to you. Right?

"No other points" far as you are concerned?

Not surprising, since I never made the point I'm sorry about my economy or 401K doing so well. You can't even get off to a good start! I would also like to point out you are not making any sense even if you think your little bit of puke doesn't stink, but I know you won't get that either. How about just never mind?

If you are talking about the America where raising a family on a single income was the norm, when one could earn close to 6 figures without a degree , when a new job was just a phone call away, when kids weren't graduating college 6 figures in debt, when out of wedlock births weren't as high as they are now, when our inner cities weren't war zones, and when health care was covered by employers with only a minimal weekly amount from the individual ?

Well sure.

NOPE!
The 80's & 90's were pretty cool. I miss that.
The second term of Clinton, to the day Obama hit the road, has been an eye opening wide.
Maybe before 9/11 would be a good measure, of uncertainty.

TRUMP has been a GOD send!

I appreciate some balance demonstrated by much you note in your comment, refreshing compared to so many comments that are truly imbalanced, but when even some balance like yours already leads you to conclude you will vote Trump in 2020, I have to conclude we are Americans "of a different stripe."

For starters, throwing in misrepresentations like "stopping the socialist agenda" also demonstrates some bias and ignorance that makes it clear, we're not likely to reconcile our differences. Either that or I counter with "stopping the fascist agenda" and how intelligent is that all considered?

"Two wrongs don't make a right," and two dumb accusations are just dumb...

I agree and point out what ignorance is out there. My wife asked me about a post on her FB page. It said that the governor of NC just signed a bill that gives free college tuition to illegals. NC has a Dem Governor but has a house and senate controlled by Repubs. I told her that in order for the Gov to sign a bill it must be passed by the legislators. And Repubs would never send a bill to the Gov like that. The comments under the meme showed how ignorant many Trump supporters actually are since they fully believed the meme. She let me scroll thru her page and I found numerous examples of this type of fake news pushed by his supporters.

That is laughable! Thanks for the amusement!

In all seriousness though, Trump is a ticking time bomb, and he’s being played by dictators who are much smarter than him. I just hope that we can get through this without having a serious war!
