No I don't miss the America before Trump. I miss the America before Obama!! Obama was the worst thing for America since Jimmy Carter. I appreciate where America is going with Trump in office. Go Trump!
I know we had our problems. Lots to complain about, be angry about, little-to-no trust in government, "throw the bums out!" Sure, but as bad as it was, don't you miss the America before Trump?
Instead of throwing out the bums, seems Trump surrounded himself with new ones. Instead of "draining the swamp," we simply got another swamp to contend with, wonder about. A POTUS who instead of explaining why we needed a new health care plan, to cover people with previous conditions, we have a POTUS who explains what women will let you do to them under the right conditions.
Instead of a Noble Peace prize and a world impressed that America would actually elect a black POTUS, we get a wall that Mexico will pay for, and "thousands of Muslims" Trump said were cheering on 9/11. We get the best health care plan ever, never seen. An international trade war and now China cozying up with Russia. Instead of Michelle, we get hanky panky with porn stars and Playboy bunnies and even better, hush money paid in the $100 thousands to keep them quiet.
Not that any of this should have us wonder what else needs to be hushed...
Right, but what about the economy and our 401Ks?
I knew I shouldn't have started this thread, but I do surely miss the good old days before Trump started making America great again...
Depends on which era you're talking about. If you're talking about the Obama era, then no I don't miss it at all. I've never been one to subscribe to hope. Believing in the hope system is like spending your welfare check on lottery tickets. You're hoping to win one day, but that day never comes and you die broke and lied to. The only change I saw during those years is increased racial division in this country. (Dallas, TX anyone?)
Prior to that we had 8 years of a lame duck presidency, which was awful. Nothing has been accomplished in this country since Clinton was in office.
I don't particularly care for the personal things that Trump does or the way he acts. It could be better, but at the end of the day that's his business.
However, I do care about Trump's policies and how they affect the U.S. economy and the security and prosperity of Americans. That is the reason he was elected President.
The personal things that Trump does is no longer JUST Trump's business. There is a reason Trump tried to hush up Stormy Daniels to the tune of six figures. You don't pay that kind of coin if no one cares...
What the POTUS does, personal or otherwise, tends to reflect on all of America, affects all of America to some degree or another in any case. There is a big difference between having a true statesman for POTUS vs a dirt bag. Also you are right about Trump's policies, and we all tend to care about that too. Trump was elected President to pursue policies that would benefit Americans. Not sure that's what Trump is doing all considered, although clearly there is the typical "good, bad and ugly" that comes with every administration.
What? Like Iraq, Afganistan, Libya, Syria, and Yemen? Thank Dog we have Trump, a president who Isnt getting us into any new wars!
Here too we have what direction we were headed before Trump even came along, like getting out of Iraq was Obama's campaign pledge, now I guess Trump is getting credit for that too...
Either way, here's to no new wars before Trump is done, because his tactics with North Korea have been questionable at best, and unilaterally moving the embassy to Jerusalem a bit unnecessarily and unjustifiably provoking. Fingers crossed, everyone stays calm despite some of the things Trump says and does...
So what? If only you were worried about the validity, and accuracy, of the content.
Right!
As I've commented before, I call it "triangulating for the truth" which is the process of following multiple competing sources of news, conservative or liberal, and drawing conclusion based on various takes on what's happening. Personally, I've found little sources of news better balanced than the PBS News Hour, because they go out of their way to get speakers, experts, from all sides of an issue to present their views. One hour, no commercials, hard to beat if you've only got an hour.
In the mornings, before I fool around in this forum awhile, I scan about 10 different news sights, local, national and international, and it truly is amazing to see how different sources present the same story either the same way or quite differently.
I avoid listening or reading what "talking heads" have to say entirely...
If in anything, the guy before constantly tried to do an end run around the Constitution. He was, however, so liked by so many that many could not see what he was doing and the press often gave him a free ride.
Now, with the current CONDOR, everyone is watching him and if he tries to do the same, between his inexperience, lack of knowledge of government affairs, and such attention, there will be so much red tape that an end run won't be successful or, at the very least, will be much delayed.
So seeing things from that angle, things are actually pretty good.
Interesting angle, but fair?
Every POTUS is going to do what they can to advance the agenda they feel is appropriate. I know I would. Whether any POTUS bumps up against the constitution depends on a lot of factors that we then leave to our justice system to check. If what Obama did was unconstitutional, with all due respect to your opinion and those against Obama, we must all leave it to the JD to determine if/when that line is crossed. If no such determination is made, then all we have is citizens thinking they know better, depending on their political biases and not much else...
