You can call it a common sense system all you want, but you're alone in feeling that way here.
I like personal responsibility and capitalism calls for it. We're not all the same, we don't all contribute equally, and to expect a world where there are no class differences means you're going to find a lot of people who aren't motivated to go above and beyond. To create. To build things.
For every ten people who looted, there were 100 from that building who didn't. So capitalism has zip to do with the behavior of the impoverished and their choice to loot. It has to do with a lack of morals and a sense of entitlement. Why? Because they weren't raised right or because spending a lifetime of having things handed to them leads to that attitude, or frustration that they don't have the skills to buy the things they think they want or think they deserve, or all of the aforementioned.
Seeing people who have more usually motivates people to work hard or become more educated / skilled so they can have the same things and live the same kind of lifestyle. And it's the sweat off the backs of those people that keep losers like the looters fed and housed.
First off, From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs does not mean equal outcome.
Secondly I don’t support destruction of property or theft, I’m just saying this would never happen in a non capitalist society. These people don’t exist separate from you or anyone else.
You need to read "Lord of the Flies"...………...that would be your socialist utopia...……..

You're assuming people wouldn't want more and act on that desire in the society you describe. I think most people are good, ethical, moral, and do the right thing. But not everyone is like that and your society would include the same dregs found in every society. Why? Because it has nothing to do with capitalism. If it did, there would be even more looters than there are.

People could still be more ambitious than others and achieve more/control more capital. But they would naturally be limited by their physical limitations.
It’s not like now when a piece of paper gives you control over an entire factory and the input of all its workers. There will be no state police to protect that authoritarian rule.

I have and nothing a claimed is anything like that. Also, there wouldn’t be a shortage in resources as well people wouldn’t be stuck on an island. There would also be supply chains and mutual aid.
If the looters were white people, this would be a different thread.
He posted this because the looters were black people.
I do agree we should stop making excuses for people who steal.
Instances of mass looting are newsworthy, in any sane society. If America has gotten to the point where many people agree that it should be overlooked for whatever reason, or just don't care, that's a problem.
As for the race of these looters let's not kid ourselves, if they had been white that footage would be viral. If there was video of a neighborhood full of white Americans looting and trashing a local business during a hurricane, it would lead every newscast in the country and around the world. If the reporter was black and actually confronting white looters wearing masks it would break the internet. I wouldn't need to start a thread about it here because somebody else already would have.
Hey, shouldn't you be out looting or isn't it dark enough in California yet?
Sun is setting right now. Got up to around 90 today...scorcher. I gotta move closer to the beach for the cool breeze.
But once again, you know who lives near the beach? The white man of course. Him and his capitalism own Santa Monica, Malibu, Manhattan Beach, and Redondo.

We don't want a state police. They would shut every thing down and no one will get any where that way. For the person that has that piece of paper and has assumed control, if a person is willing to go the distance there is that court of law, to handle any injustice a person may believe has been handed to them, by the controller. So who really has control? Find out in court.
As for as these looters are concerned. It wouldn't matter what type of economic system, social or capital ... people got to eat. And ATM do not work when the power is out. Nor does the mail run, when the streets are under 10 feet of water.
They can not swipe their government cards so it wouldn't really matter if they have $2.00 on that card or $2,000.00, or they haven't a card at all, until the power comes back no one has squat. They know this ... thus they took off to do what they could, however they could.
What happens next is typical of what happens in any Republic ... a court of law, which may find them innocent, given the circumstances.
