My guess is that the FD owner didn't want to press charges at the scene primarily because some in the community--in a perverted sense of "outrage"--would have taken their business elsewhere if the owner had "helpless" hurricane survivors arrested That and the FD owner probably wanted to avoid the further looting and property destruction that would have come (this is the main reason, IMO) had the police shot and killed a looter and the #BlackLivesMatter crowd descended on the area afterward. This is the world we live in, folks.

This is depressingly sad and true.

If we lived in a society where goods were not valued and horded by monetary value, people would not go and dishonor themselves for such useless crap.

But since we live in a world where material goods are the source of value, people degrade themselves for this one time opportunity.

Looting used to be a shoot to kill offense. Nothing worse than lowlifes preying on the misfortunes of others.

Heartbreaking in a way. If you were stranded by floodwaters for a week and were going in for food, that I could understand. But, these criminals were just looting to loot.

Lowlifes who were born to understand material goods had monetary value, and were the only way to obtain freedom.

They were deprived from it by authoritarian capitalist who horde public goods, and now that people see the opportunity they degrade themselves to take it.

This is the fault of capitalism, not the looters.

Yeah, because they were taught by our society that material goods are the only way to gain value in this world, and they are deprived to those who don't have capital.

Now they see an opportunity to obtain the goods that we say are valued more than human life, and you have the gall to judge them.

If this makes you angry, stop supporting capitalism.

It depends on who the store owners are. If it is Koreans, you can bet that they will protect their property at all costs.
