There are more positives of a population decline than negatives. My priorities are the environment, jobs, less overcrowding and less depletion of our natural and social resources. If our government hadn't borrowed from our SS funds and never paid it back we wouldn't be in this situation in the first place.
Another issue of population decline is the general damage to the economy. As the population ages, it becomes less productive and GDP growth slows. Any study of genius reveals that creativity is often most intense among the young, and tends to decline with age.

It has been a pet theory of mine that it was demographics that got us out of the depression much more than other commonly cited factors. The 'greatest generation' went off to fight WWII, and when they came back they were young adults perfectly poised to generate an economic boom.

And the good economic numbers of the 1990s were also related to demographics. The baby boomers (born 1946-1964) were ages 26-44 in 1990--prime productive years.

We could probably stop all immigration for the next 100 years and still be overcrowded

We should have more immigration. Expand the quotas of how many are allowed from each country, category etc. Our country has always benefited from legal immigration.

And then tally up how many of each have already entered illegally or stayed illegally, and deduct those from the coming quotas that each came from.

Some countries/categories will go into the red instantly, and may not be in the black for many years when their citizens can finally start getting visas. But whose fault is that?

Illegal aliens who leave the country and don't come back until they have obeyed all laws, entrance requirements etc. will not be deducted from their quotas.

Of course, build the wall first and man it adequately, just in case any of those citizens object, and think they can just waltz in. And pass laws specifying fines and jail time for any CEOs, CFOs, Personnel managers etc. who knowingly hire illegals.

immigration in the US tops all country's quotas.

Trump has not decreased legal migration and was elected to deal with illegal invasion.

Given the anchor babies, chain migration and visas under control we would have room for more desirable skilled immigrants

I voted to reduce.

We shouldn't completely eliminate immigration, but a growing population likely means more deforestation and more resources constrained.

Additionally, immigrants are disproportionately from the low-skill sector, which was once good, but perhaps now not ideal with growing automation.

Yeah exactly continuous population growth to support the elderly is the logic of a pyramid scheme requiring exponential increases in population.

We don't have the same demographics as before through immigration. Most of the poorest and unstable 3rd world countries have a large percentage of the population that is youthful.

That's why you import a lot of Egyptian Pharaohs; after all, they specialize in pyramid schemes!
