Per capita GDP Ranking
The framers of the Constitution did... this country was founded upon the principles of liberty, not theft of property for redistribution to others. I encourage all that feel socialism is the answer to find that special country that matches their ideals... but I'm not willing to give my country up without a fight.

Government waste is evident in the average salary trends of federal civilians versus privately employed workers according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis. In 1990 the average salary of a federal civilian was $46,496 which increased to $111,180 in 2006. Compare that to 1990 figures of $30,709 versus $55,470 in 2006 for privately employed workers. Spending other people's money on other people is the least effecient and least effective way to spend money.

Bring back accountability, increase efficiency, and stop detaching people from the process. Improve participation in the donation of time through volunteer work. And while we're at it, restore the Constitution which makes no authorization for the federal government to be involved in social programs.

But ask yourself one important question. If you had $10,000 which you wanted to use to help those that are less fortunate, would you donate that money to a charity of your choice, or would you donate it to the US Treasury to make the decision for you as to how it should be spent?
The most encouraging thing I see is that there is much more money than good ideas. Earlier point of generosity of Amercans is right on! I try not to get bogged down in the points I don't like, because the agenda that brings the ugly individual cases of mis appropriation are what I believe to be the minority. It is those of extreme wealth who want to sell you on fear. As far as the 10k, the US treasury is only recently becoming that needy....

Have privet sector wages kept up since the demise of unions? govt wages are tied, with good reason to COL factors.

Default Don't abolish welfare...regulate it!

I'm a liberal...not a conservative...but when I see people on welfare with kids they can't take care of that drive out of the grocery store parking lot with a nice ride...it pisses me off. If we can regulate the welfare system to make sure people don't abuse it...it could save the government much money...and downright banning illegals from it altogether would help,
my two cents...

Thomas Paine who gets little play in history, and his followers (framers of the constitution) were very concerned about the recurrence of an elite class by property inheritance. Before anyone gets up in arms, were talking vast wealth, not a mere mil or two. So when talk about the inheritance tax comes up...its a good thing

Increasing the average salary 129% in 15 years, or 38% in the past 5 years, definitely isn't realistic. Wages aren't tied to performance, they're tied to inefficient pay scales that don't take much more than seniority into account. This is but one factor in the waste that we see within government.
