One could make that claim about many places: X rated bookstores, strip clubs, the White House, etc. . .

Anyone who goes to have sex with a doll is a loser. A genuine grade A loser.

I had a thread on robot prostitution a year ago, but it was closed. Anyway, I was predicting that we would see fairly wide-scale "sexbot" prostitution within 5 years, and I think my prediction is on-track. So I just wanna take a moment to gloat and say "I told ya so."
A quote from that closed thread:
Quote:
Which is why my initial thought was "robot prostitution" (i.e., rental/leasing). And once the tech is well-established and mass production kicks in, sexbots could become affordable for middle class - especially if the AI is generalizable enough to handle simple domestic chores ("Making a sandwich" has been a popular wish-list item in this thread )

I'm also not convinced that those who can afford it "don't need it". Well...Okay, they don't need it, but some will probably want it. Maybe enough for a small but viable market?

As for the impact, the "sexbot" aspect might not be as revolutionary as the basic AI/robotics aspects, but when combined with the AI/robotics, I strongly suspect that the additional "anatomical correctness" will have a fairly significant impact of its own. I predict that we will start to see the early signs of this impact within the next 5 years (or maybe even as soon as 2 years?).

Pricing may be a issue. Until they are cheaper then a human I think most folks will pick a human. Shrug. And at a 15K investment im going to bet wear and tear costs will be high enough to cause issues for profitability without a excessive price point.

I dont think its a good business choice yet. Although selling them may work out better, if they can.....wow customers with a demo.

On the plus side, they won’t make up stories 30 years down the road either.

Are they actually charging customers $15,000 to buy the dolls? I thought the article was saying that's how much the brothel was paying for each one. I'm not sure what the purpose of a sex doll "brothel" is if multiple patrons can't use the same doll, one after the other (following proper disinfection, of course.)

Most people would say the same thing about people who watch porn and "take care of themselves" and have no actual interactions with other human beings. Unfortunately, that is a lot of people. How is this robot thing really that much different?

Either legalize prostitution or these places. People are going to have sex with or without government.
