I enjoy languages in general, and it's great fun to use a new language. I'm also considering living in Tijuana and working in San Diego, so knowing Spanish would be incredibly useful.
What is that opinion based on? Certainly not fact.
"Use of Spanish declines among Latinos in major U.S. metros"
Hopefully you're not one of those people who dismisses data unless it comports with what your gut tells you.
Oh, okay, now that I've read a few more of your comments, I see that you are, indeed, one of those people.
Have you ever heard of freedom? As American citizens, we all have a right to live among whomever we choose. And no one is going to start speaking English just because you're angry about it.
Good luck living in Tijuana, lol! How do these parents here illegally communicate with their kids if not by speaking Spanish to them? Their kids after attending our schools make speak less Spanish where have I said otherwise?
One of those people? WTH does that mean?
Where did I say you didn't have the right to live among anyone you want to? Where did I say that because I believe immigrants should speak English in public if they know how to can't do so because I think it's rude and arrogant? Am I not entitled to my opinion? Don't I have THAT right?
We have greatly underestimated the presence and influence Mexico has had on America
The backbone of American service industry, industrial , law enforcement and to some extent military is Mexican
I feel for many Americans this fact has not sunk in
Did you mean underestimating the unwanted presence and influence of Mexico on the US? If so I would agree with that.
Like rip van winkle we have been asleep in the land of the good life -and when we woke up 60 years later- a few things had changed- those are not our kids doing those jobs -ours kids are 35 year old skate board wonders

It does feel like Rip Van Winkle waking up and realizing you're in a foreign country.
1. They are mostly coming from Mexico and Central America not a myriad of cultures, but a myriad of foreign cultures is still foreign and hardly any better.
2. Everyone here is talking about the USA.
3. And your wrong
4. The only people who need to be bilingual and are not putting in the effort are the ones who speak a language other than English.
1. As you stated, most Hispanics come from Latin America, which has a myriad of cultures. Even within Central America, there are various cultural groups.
2. The OP said North America, which is what I addressed. There is a difference.
3. and 4. I am right. Those who have problem with it don’t like to learn. Doesn’t matter what your native language is. It is an ignorant and lazy attitude to hold.

Well like I said the only people in America who need to learn a new language is those who don't speak English. English speaking Americans don't have to do anything language wise.
English is not the language of North America. The US is an English-speaking country, Mexico is a Spanish-speaking country, and Canada is bilingual English/French. If your biggest peeve in life is ignoring the telephone prompt for “para Espanol marca Ocho”, then your life is boring enough to be pretty darned good.
