Seems as though that modern life is far more stressful for women than men these days.

Many men can use video games as escape, so looks like the surge in female mental health issues stems from the full-time job plus raising families and the "keep up with the jones" lifestyle which has never been so strong.

I am a older millennial male myself who will never get married and will never start a family of my own. I like working and free time when not at work.

I don't believe the implications.

I wonder if the question were simply, Would you consider yourself to be in good, fair, or poor mental health, and then half the women said poor?

I just don't believe that.

My guess is, they asked questions like stress level, sleeping habits, positive outlook, etc., and then decided half the women are in poor mental health.

I bet women who identified as Dems had the most mental health problems.

I fully believe this. Many women I run across are bat**** crazy and they just let it fly. Don't let this fool you, there are many men who are mentally ill as well, mental illness is a real problem and is getting worse. My theory is that mentally ill people have unprotected sex more often and end up pregnant and their the illnesses are genetic.

So I went and read through the survey. First, in order to be a candidate for this survey you have to have a landline phone, and the survey takes about 15 minutes to complete the survey interview.

Talk about a narrow band of participants.

So yes. I think people who answer a landline phone from a research business and are then willing to participate in a 15 minute interview about their mental health, likely 1/3-1/2 would describe their mental health as poor.

In conclusion, it should be considered that people with landline phones who answer every call and then have 15 minutes to talk about themselves are more likely to have mental health/depression issues than the general population.

I noticed that in Puero Rico the gap was only 1 percent. 22% of males and 23% females report poor mental health.

The gap between male and female mental health status was low in Hawaii and Florida also.

Colder states that are more transient or have higher birth rates tend to have nearly 15 percentage differences.

Poor mental health staus was 48% females and 33% males in Utah, 46% females and 32% males in Massachusetts. 46% females and 31% in Mississippi, 40% female and 27% male in Wyoming.

I think what's most concerning is that this study found in nearly every U.S. state that a third or more of those residents surveyed were in a state of poor mental health. That's both women AND men. My gosh, that's startling high.
