To be fair, Jefferson wasn't really a fan of America since day one. He wasn't even a supporter of the US Constitution. And he hated Alexander Hamilton with a passion.

Not only would Jefferson not love America now, I don't think there was ever a form of America that he would have loved. At best he tolerated it.

America is the best country on Earth. But so what? Trump was better than Clinton. Does that mean Trump is the best there is? Should I love Trump because of X,Y, Z?

Love doesn't mean prefer. Love doesn't mean the lesser of two evils(or a hundred evils). It doesn't mean "least-bad".

Why do you love someone? What are the qualities which would make you love them?

Morality, virtue, honesty, integrity, compassion, good-nature, etc.

Is America a moral country? Is America a virtuous country? Is America an honest country? Does America have integrity?

What do you think of your fellow Americans? Are they moral, virtuous, and honest?

Some of them certainly, but most? I doubt it.

Another reason to like Jefferson.
Did he violate it as someone in power does? Of course he did. But to say he wasn't a supporter?
Why in the world would you say he wasn't a supporter of the Constitution? Anti Federalist sure. He didn't like the way Adams went with Federalism. I don't see that as being against the Constitution.
Tweak the Articles of Confederation not rewrite them. Is that where you are going as far as he didn't support the Constitution?

None of this has anything to do with it though. It's about loving freedoms and the rights of the individual.

Questioning the government is the most American thing I can think of.

We live in a free society where we have the RIGHT to question EVERYTHING.
