Why don't you try and find a local Detroit news channel to watch tomorrow morning. Tell me how fudged you think the reports are after that.

Nice post. We have a liberal Democrat for mayor in NYC, and Republicans keep claiming crime is up, despite all evidence to the contrary

I've wondered why, too. Maybe it's a feeling of community?

Lol...NYC is definitely a success story, although i wouldn't claim it is due to Democratic leadership. Just take a look at some of our most violent cities across the country, you will find they too, are under Democratic rule.

NY has become like San Jose: safest big city in the U.S. NY went from gritty, crazing, ratracin', high crime and eclectic city to clean, yuppie, safe, low key, sterile and tech city of today. Miss that ole NY!!

Doesn't NY state now have some of the strictest gun laws in the country? The high magazine clips have been completely banned, as I understand it. Assault style weapons are banned in NYC and several other cities in NY state.

It's actually immigrants. They've looked into this empirically; foreign born New Yorkers are far less likely to commit violent crime. Property crime was a wash, but it at least explains the low murder rates.

I think high rents help. You can only dedicate so much time to being a hoodrat POS when you work to help your family pay $2000 per month for rent.

I thought this was the reason. I’m glad I found a good liberal reference.

It does, as does Maryland, and Baltimore falls in the top ten most violent cities. Sorry, it isn't going to be that easy. And are you really that naive to think criminals follow laws ? Do you really believe the fact that large cap mags and some semi auto rifles are illegal it will stop them ? Nope, something got the illegal arms off the street first, and now that those laws are in place it is harder for them to get. Just changing the law won't do squat without cleaning house first.
