We're finally getting rid of the "blue laws" in South Carolina. It wasn't too long ago that Walmart here in town was still having to rope off half of their store at midnight on Saturdays and reopen at some point on Sundays. Makes no sense. I really wish, however, that stores would not open on Thanksgiving early for "Black Friday." But there doesn't need to be a law mandating they not do this.
The things people will do to control other people. Insanity, in the land of the free to allow others to think for you.
Someone once said " I rather be ruled by a monarch then millions and millions of petty tyrants" This issue falls under that where the people or their elected reps force their will onto others. It is anti freedom and wrong no matter what the reasoning is for doing so. The choice is the owners and if he wants to remain closed on Sunday for religious observations more power to him but to force others is being a tyrant even if done at the ballot box.
I actually think this would be an OK idea, but I'm not sure that in the US it would be do-able on a national scale.
Some places are already closed on Sunday.
NJmann should be aware that NJ used to have fairly extensive blue laws.
You are OK with a government MANDATE that says you can't work or buy things when you choose?
You know, I'm a Christian. But thinking like this is driving me away from it.
Don't mix government and religion! Don't try to legislate morality!
NJmann isn't very aware of NJ's history, because NJmann isn't an American.
I don't drink even a drop of alcohol, but after moving from Oklahoma to Colorado one of the most refreshing things I saw was a liquor store open on Sunday.
Freedom is the way to go, not ISIS-style mandates.
Would you be in favor if we mandated malls-retail stores/non-essentials to be closed on Sundays & Major Holidays?
Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Norway and many other European countries have similar so-called “blue laws”. They do exists in some parts of the United States as well, most notably in Bergen County, NJ.
Your posts are why more people are becoming anti-Christian. You want to rule the US under Biblical law.
You would have to include on line as well to be fair.
And that's world-wide.
So, if we are going to do this, let's do it right. Appoint the USA as the policeman of blue laws all over the world, and if it is Sunday in any part of the world, then no matter where you are, you better not be open for business. Otherwise, America will do the Christian thing and bomb the hell out of you.
