The bombs according to any news source I've seen are "real" in that they can go "boom" and are consistently described as "explosive devices." Certainly, they are not "movie props" or fake as some posters allege. There may be more information about the Soros pipe bomb since it was the first discovered with the story not yet as explosive (sorry, bad pun).
Authorities (per NYT reporting) have confirmed that the other devices are "similar" to the Soros pipe bomb. I'm not aware of any official statement yet about whether the bomber attempted to insert a detonating device (or, if so, whether that device failed). The bombs are described as "crude."
There are reports from unknown sources that some (including the Soros bomb) did not have a detonating device; regardless, authorities still treated it as a potentially dangerous device that they detonated on site.
Sources have speculated (sorry, don't now have the cite) the reason at least one of the bombs contained glass shards instead of the usual metal was an attempt to keep the overall weight down in order to utilize a postal box to avoid an appearance at a postal facility. We know the bombs were small.
That these devices were "only" intended to threaten or intimate remains a possibility. Still, someone or some group went through a lot of work - much more than the previous tactic of mailing suspicious but harmless powder or castor seeds.

They have reached their limit now. Logically the next step would be to cause some real damage. If thats not their intention, hten we have to understand its all drama. The only bill passed during this time was the 1.5 tn tax cut and defense spending authorization.

Sounds like that poster is writing a pretty good script. Could be a Netflix original series in the making.
Someone taking video, and social media admission. People don't realize how that comes back to bite them in the butt. Just like PD and security video will have a lot to do with tracking the couriers who delivered these package "bombs" which will then lead to who the couriers were and/or who paid for the courier services. Exactly how the Austin bomber was identified.
