An employer can fire an employee for any reason, without question. Free speech doesn't apply to work contracts unless explicitly expressed in said contract.
Right, freedom of speech doesn’t exist in the organization that openly supports freedom of speech.
Yes, well in some peoples cut & dry world that may be true, but it must be a two way street. Corporate America will one day be even more powerful, and peoples ability to work might be dependent on currying favor with the PC police.
Trouble is that freedom of speech cannot only be deemed ok for one ideology, and everyone else pays a price by not being able to put food on the table.
That, regardless of whether it is the government imposing it or not, is not what our FF's intended regarding freedom of speech/expression.
Yes, well property rights are 100% cut and dried. There is no two-way street; the employer sets the rules, and the employee(s) must follow them--period.
It is not anyone's responsibility but the individual to put food on the table; no one is entitled to a job.
Free speech is a natural right; however, contract rights are property rights contracts may suppress natural rights if they are voluntarily agreed to by all parties. In other words, no one may forcibly violate your natural rights, but you may voluntarily relinquish them.

Freedom of speech exists, no matter what. However, like I've stated, an employer may wholeheartedly suppress any and all natural rights if an employee voluntarily agrees to a contract which gives the employer permission to do so.
Well for starters Mahrer is on HBO and this has a different audience that Imus, Kelly or Lauer. Mahrer has gotten into hot water before, but given his show's dynamics and audience he has survived intact.
Though I know you were replying to another poster, don't be obtuse.
I for example don't read Breitbart nor listen to InfoWars, but know of numerous leftist hypocrisy when it comes to penalizing people for freedom of speech, if it does not conform to their PC speech codes.
I still dont know what Maher said that should get him fired.
Kelly just talks about Halloween costumes from forty years ago and gets canned.
Oh, yea, I remember that. Bill Maher apologized as well, the difference being that he also had Ice Cube on next weeks show, who explained to Bill and people watching or listening on podcast (me) why it's not funny or cool for white people to use this language.
Ice Cube, and the larger black community, know that Bill is not racist. Unfortunately for Imus and Kelly, no such foreknowledge exists.

Megyn had two black hosts from PBS on her show the next day to explain what is wrong with blackface. Not good enough I guess.
