Did the NY Times also "admit" that chain migration played a part in Melania's parents getting citizenship so quickly?
Isn't it? If you think hard enough you might realize why they chose that word.

Listen, we aren't 14, it isn't about Melania getting a candy so they get one. Things change according to need. We need to stop immigrating poverty or we won't be able to afford any programs to help those impoverished.

Our immigration system needs an overhaul, we don't have the same needs we had when it was created, and we are broke. America can't afford to hoard immigrants because we feel some distress in setting new immigration laws. Laws change to fit a need.

No such birthright exception was ever granted to any other foreign sovereign/national/citizen group.

I disagree. Plenty of historic and legal precedent. Trump is just returning the 14th to its original intent and enforcement.
Not true. The Indians were treated as separate nations with sovereignty until 1871. That was also the first time that Federal crimes were recognized on the reservation.
See Indian Appropriations Act of 1871.

Also note the reservations were not part of the state and the states had no authority in the reservations in that period.

You know exactly they get tons of benefits from the get go. Then they continue to have one child after another to keep it going. They get free medical, education, food, housing subsidies.

Since you’re all for providing for all these masses of people when do you plan on opening up your home to provide for them?

Wilkins when the Court held that a Native person born a citizen of a recognized tribal nation was not born an American citizen and did not become one simply by voluntarily leaving his tribe and settling among whites. The syllabus of the decision explained that a Native person "who has not been naturalized, or taxed, or recognized as a citizen either by the United States or by the state, is not a citizen of the United States within the meaning of the first section of the Fourteenth Article of Amendment of the Constitution."
Right, and the same thing applies to foreigners. They have the allegiance possessed by their parent. They inherit that which is their parents'- that's THEIR birthright. The parent can't bequeath something they don't even possess, for chrissakes.

Think about the term birthright...its something to which you are entitled because of to WHOM you were born, not WHERE you were born.

Your birthright is to your parents' possessions, not their neighbors possessions.
You inherit what your PARENT has, not what their landlord has. etc and so forth.

It has nothing to do with WHERE you were born.

I was born in a hospital. Doesn't make me a doctor, does it? Or the owner of a hospital? Nope.

Because that would be insane.

If you understand what a birthright IS, then you also must understand that its something that is inherited from another person, not something that is magically transmitted by a place.

LOL I live in a state where it would most likely not make one ounce of difference what I voice with respect to illegal immigrants. CA offers incentives for them to come here! This state is very fascist and socialist on many levels.

Ever hear of One California or the California Dream Act?

What are you going to do about it????

Those of you supporting EO, could you specify exactly what you would like to see? Do you want to end birth right citizenship to children born of illegal immigrants only? Or are we applying this to all non citizens in the US, like those who have green cards? What about work visas? Student and tourist visas?

Also, are you in favor of retroactively rescinding citizenship?

And I'm not going to bother to read the rest of the replies because I already know what some on here are going to say.

It's one step towards a secure country. People like security. They secure their home, their car, their personal belongings, their health, everything - they like security - even the ones who act like it's a bad thing.

Stopping illegal immigration is not just a wall, it's not just e-verify, it's not just stopping chain migration, or birthright citizenship, etc. It's all of those, combined!
This is correct. I just don’t understand why some people are so against our looking out for our country. Why do they think we should provide for all of these people, and meanwhile the streets of major cities across the country are filled with homeless.

There is no reason to have the 14th amendment written this way. We don’t have slavery anymore! It served its purpose!!

There is not a person on this board that allow a baby born in your house (not a product of your sexual coupling) to automatically become a member of your family with all the rights and privileges given to them as

No nation does this crap! Trump is right on this!! If Obamahad proposed this there would be zero resistance from leftists.

Even if the 14th Amendment contemplated “allegiance” as a requirement for birthright citizenship (it doesn’t) the idea that it is passed down from parents to a day old baby is asinine.
