Nixon was a double edged sword. A great President in some ways and worse President in others. For those who don't know anything positive about him he
-finally put an end to the Vietnam War and accepted that the U.S. wasn't going to win it
-opened the door to communist China which no other President had accomplished
-pushed for and was able to put in place regulations protecting the environment. Something revolutionary for that time.

His negatives are already well know.
And he made one of the worst mistakes I can think of. He created wage and price controls as a way to fight off inflation. It made things worse, of course.
Saying wage and price controls didn't work is like saying corn doesn't grow on the moon. It's true, but it doesn't even approach the real problem.
Recorded the first of 4 parts of the documentary, Watergate, on the history channel.
Wow, I was in my teenage years . So I can only remember parts of the issue. It is eye opening how crazy Nixon and his closest staff were. I can see how the GOP had to stop him when the report came out/
I'd be interested to hear if it's any good. It played in theaters, and I saw a great review, but it disappeared before I had a chance to go.
I've been using the example of Watergate as a time when Republicans still had some principles, that when they had proof of Nixon's misdeeds (which weren't as bad as Trump's!) they finally agreed that Nixon had to go. However, I just read something recently that implied that Republicans only gave in when they started to sense that their re-elections were in jeopardy.

Funny how you mention proof when you never provide any for the endless accusations that you make against Trump.

There's a documentary on Netflix about the 70s and it takes a look at Watergate in a fair manner pretty much showing step by step what it was about and how Nixon was involved. Nixon had handily won his reelection while Watergate was happening. That was before strong evidence of his involvement.
Nixon had the integrity to resign to save the country the embarrassment of a presidential impeachment, Bill Clinton did not.
The difference is that Nixon didn't have the votes to overcome impeachment and removal from office, his goose was cooked in both the House and Senate and was so advised by the leaders of both houses. He was offered the opportunity to resign.
Clinton was impeached by the House but the Senate didn't move it forward. Clinton wasn't going to be removed from office.
