SJW's? Geezus... There were democrats in the 80's just like there are today they were not that much different, what is different is that our current President does not understand compromise or negotiation, it's all about him, not our nation.
I and most of the forum would disagree that there is a big difference in today's {D}s then in the 80's I would also add the {R} party has changed too.
As far as a Reagan/O Neil get along and passing legislation I do not see that repeated now or in my life time.
I do not see Trump and Pelosi working together and doing anything and that is the problem neither one really want to. What would their constituents think? Pelosi working with Trump, and Trump working with Pelosi?
If there is going to be a Reagan/O Neal repeat love fest Pelosi would have to go and the {D}s would need to pick a true moderate and a real leader.

That is what enabled him to successfully navigate policy decisions despite Democrat control of the House. Which one of those qualities and attributes would you ascribe to the current occupant of the White House?
Well we can't ascribe that quality to the current occupant of the White House, he never makes mistakes, just ask him. That is besides his 'Best people' who've nearly required the installation of a revolving door in the White House.
Before Newt President Reagan used to bash the Democrats with huge waves of normal people demanding that the Democrat majorities quit stonewalling Republicans and do instead what the Republicans wanted. And after months and years of the people pummeling the Democrats they finally caved and passed Reagan's initiatives - to the benefit of the entire country, and more freedom around the world.
Reagan was experienced and popular. People liked him personally. Trump is a nasty prick who loves fighting and confrontation. Trump knows nothing about leading. He is in it for himself and everyone knows it--nobody is going out of their way for this oaf.
Trump never had the house. It was full of neocon Rinos closer in thinking to the neoliberal wing of the democrats. So its really little different than it was.
Reagan worked because he was able to sell a vision of a successful America built on compromise under his leadership. The current political environment is one of winning. Every decision has to have a winner and a loser, rather than abiding by the thought that a rising tide floats all ships.

We in the Executive Branch loved the hell out of Reagan, even if we were Democrats. He was a wonderful and masterful leader. If there were any holes in his plans, we covered them. What he wanted to work, we made it work. We pretty much would have gladly followed him into any silly situation he led us.
Reagan was a skillful politicians whereas Trump is ten pounds of ish in a five pound bag. Reagan knew how to work with the other side of the aisle. Trump can barely work with his own side.
