Ronald Reagan was the Great Communicator who often disagreed with Tip O'Neill on policy, but treated him with respect and used his skills as a former Union leader to find constructive common ground. Reagan often appealed to Americans directly to keep them informed of how his policy decisions was made with the best interests of every American by delivering eloquent messaging of an optimistic future (think "its morning in America") without unnecessarily demonizing anyone, even the Soviets. He also recognized, acknowledged, and learned from his mistakes (see, tax increases) and heavily valued introspection and self-awareness. He was personally liked by most, even those who disagreed with him. He relied heavily on the advice of seasoned policy advisors, not going with his "gut" feeling but instead extensively consulting them and weighing their opinions.
That is what enabled him to successfully navigate policy decisions despite Democrat control of the House. Which one of those qualities and attributes would you ascribe to the current occupant of the White House?
Republicans are justifiably unhappy with Democrats gaining a small majority in the House of Representatives. Look forward to huge deficits and repeated government shutdowns as a result.
B/c you guys did such a great job managing the deficit when you had all the power...
I stopped reading there b/c obviously the rest of you post is trash opinion not based on reality.
Geez, yet ANOTHER thread created by the right this morning, trying to downplay the dems taking the House and make it seem like this is no big deal for Trump.
Why can't you guys just be honest? Losing the House is not a HUGE deal for Trump, but things will definitely be different for him moving forward.
I hate Trump, but I can admit that holding Senate and even picking up a few seats was a win for Trump. Why are some (not all) Trump supporters so incapable of being objective and agree that losing the House was not good for Trump?
Exactly. Deny, deny, deny. The voters have spoken. Many millions don't like Trump's message of divisiveness. I'm sure the "Me first, all the time" speeches aren't appealing either.
Before Newt President Reagan used to bash the Democrats with huge waves of normal people demanding that the Democrat majorities quit stonewalling Republicans and do instead what the Republicans wanted. And after months and years of the people pummeling the Democrats they finally caved and passed Reagan's initiatives - to the benefit of the entire country, and more freedom around the world.
Reagan was experienced and popular. People liked him personally. Trump is a nasty prick who loves fighting and confrontation. Trump knows nothing about leading. He is in it for himself and everyone knows it--nobody is going out of their way for this oaf.

That sound you all just heard was little eddiebgood running away from the debate at high speed with his tail tucked firmly between his hind legs, shouting protests over his shoulder and pretending the facts presented are somehow "wrong".
i was about to say. SJWs and intersectionality devotees were nowhere in sight in the 80s.
SJW's? Geezus... There were democrats in the 80's just like there are today they were not that much different, what is different is that our current President does not understand compromise or negotiation, it's all about him, not our nation.

NICE job of conveniently overlooking the fact that Republicans then most certainly weren't what they are today, you'd have to look back at the time of the drunk Senator from Wisconsin for that.
