What if something gets lost or is mistranslated and she is misdiagnosed, should the doctor be held accountable? This was not an emergency situation, had it been then maybe she would be an acceptable translator. I am sure there are plenty of Spanish speaking doctors available. I really don't see a problem.
Office visit, so certainly doesn’t sound like an emergency situation. Hospitals are set up for these situations. Such as having a list of clinical employees and what languages they speak, in addition to access to an interpreter service that is accessible over the phone.
I think this family should focus on the doctor's bedside manner, instead of calling him a racist.
This doctor does not have a good bedside manner, there is absolutely no need to give them a lecture. People will take their concerns or complaints seriously if they stop calling him a racist.
Let's not pretend all doctors are required to have "mad love" towards their patients, but good bedside manner is still expected from a good doctor.

We have no idea what happened before this incident. Did the dr kindly explain the need for a certified translator only to get mouth from the granddaughter or who ever was her supposed interpreter? Were they creating a scene in the waiting area? Were they impatient and creating a scene once taken back? We only see a video of an upset dr and have no idea what transpired before hand. I can tell you right now - our practice threw more than one patient out for disrupting the office, being rude to the staff ect…. His comment - which I didn't approve of - but may have been said well after something else set him and the office off. We can only assume with a partial video - and you know what ASSUMING dies - don't you!

Some of the best doctors I know had the worst bedside manners and would be the one's I recommend for a critical condition - because they're the best at what they do. Most of the time these days you see PAs or NPs.
As a matter of fact a NP or PA may have seen the patient before the dr stepped in and a problem was noted then and the dr was just going to squash it right there and then.

I understand the point you are making here. I don't think the doctors should be required to love their patients, but good bedtime manner should still be expected from a GOOD doctor. This is just my own opinion, and opinion is not a fact.
Anyway, I believe this family should focus on his bedtime manner, instead of calling him a racist.
My little nephew is battling with childhood Leukemia. His THEN doctor had terrible bedtime manner, I don't think he is a bad doctor, I just don't like HIM treating my nephew who is a little kid. Many parents dislike him because he showed zero patience. He is supposed to be the expert in this field, well, he is not the only one. Now, my little nephew has a wonderful angel like female doctor. My general approach is that if I don't like a doctor, I will find somebody else. I don't like to protest or call people names. Nothing good is going to come out of it.
Another family looking for publicity and a quick payout.
One needs a qualified interpreter when seeing a doctor. You can't just casually stroll in and tell the doctor and staff that you as a family member will translate. Anyone can see that is a huge potential for a lawsuit and penalties if something goes wrong.
The doctor was right, people so quick to jump on the "it's racism let's film this" bandwagon.
The sjw call out mob had attacked the business on yelp and Google reviews. These mobs don't play and will make sure a particular business is destroyed.

And there quick and easy and free cellphone apps that can help with interpretation if it comes to that.
No sympathy and it’s NOt racist in any way. Unless they are tourists or businessmen on a trip to visit a client, everyone here should know English . There is no excuse for letting people in here that can’t communicate.
