Fearful Thousand Oaks residents decide it's time to buy a gun

2A supporters are getting what they have been praying for, bunches of scared, untrained first-time gun buyers. Gun enthusiasts should feel much safer now with hoards of backup at their disposal.

What could go wrong?

There’s a documented phenomenon in America following mass shootings in which gun enthusiasts stream to dealers to buy up contested accessories like bump stocks before they are made illegal. Von Colln’s customers on Thursday didn't appear to be those types, ... They weren’t driven by a collector’s desire to hoard guns and accessories, but by raw fear.

It's called the "Streisand Effect".

Reminds me of when a co worker wanted to borrow a gun from me during a fearful episode. I told him "No" because the family is not in the business of loaning out guns. Now, in the years afterwards, when I was richer, I told him I would bank roll one for him. He would go in, test from the display, decide which one he wanted, go through the check and paper work, and I would pay.

As it is, he decided to get one for himself, so there we go.

As far as them buying up the bump stocks, well I guess somewhere there is media promoting that they need those things.

As far as what could go wrong? Well, at least two things. First, of course, they may have people pulling the trigger on fear on the wrong person.

And secondly? They may oust their politicians who don't care for them for as the phrase goes, "Enough is enough"?

There is nothing wrong with a person legally buying a gun, getting training, and using it for self defense. Many people find they enjoy practicing, and take it up as a hobby. I am surprised you can still buy ANY gun, or ammunition in California considering all the ridiculous, and illegal gun laws.

Now, if bad evil people knew everyone here is armed, the coward is not going to pick that place as a target and move on. Unless the beef is with an individual, and they get the drop on them, but that is murder and 1 casualty, not 10 or more.

California has successfully created a lot of Gun Free Zones which criminals and crazies know are SOFT Targets where people can not shoot back. These guys are cowards, and look for these gun free zones. More guns laws only make the law abiding even MORE defenseless.

After all, what can go wrong with drinking patrons in a bar all packing heat?

What did you expect? The shooting showed that big brother government can not protect people and that their safety is in their own hands. Meanwhile, every time something like this happens some idiot politicians and their hoplophobic supporters repeat the mantra of "guns are evil and need to be banned." People who actually give a rodent's rectum about the safety of themselves and their families make the decision to purchase a firearm before the next wave of useless "common sense" gun laws go into effect. 99.99% of them will never use their firearm to defend themselves, and a good half of them will lock it away after the new wears off. The other half will be just like the rest of us who own firearms and look at it as a tool, nothing more and nothing less - one to be treated with respect just like any other moderately dangerous tool such as a chainsaw or a framing nailer.

The irony is that the gun grabbers such as yourself consistently complain about people buying firearms after incidents such as this without realizing that you're the reason they do so. If you'd back off on the whole "guns are evil" mantra and stop trying to ban everything that fires a projectile larger than a BB when some nut job slips through the cracks and goes on a shooting spree people wouldn't clear the shelves of every gun store in a 100 mile radius after one of these occurrences.

The anti-gun left is responsible for more firearm sales than the NRA ever dreamed of, y'all just don't realize it.

In all fariness, even armed guards would not have a chance if they were casually standing around. I understand they were the first one shot. This was a military operation. If a trained military decides to ambush a bar, people will die.
