Sad sad thread reminding us all why it's wise to stay out of politics because even being asked about your stance (in a rude and pushy way) has set off a firestorm among the local idiots claiming all kinds of ridiculous things about her, making rude comments about her etc.

Some of you are truly shameless.

If somebody is a celebrity and you don't know their politics, chances are about 100% those politics are conservative/republican, or some degree of anti-liberal/Democrat. Either that, or they aren't famous enough yet for anyone to care what they say.

Since Dolly is a country singer who is most famous in the country music milieu, I'd wager dimes to donuts she has similar views as her country music purchasing constituency, hich I doubt very much gels with the powers that be in the music industry itself.

Dolly is a smart woman. She doesn’t want politics to cut half of her audience off. Sometimes you just have to NOT talk politics. It’s similar to voicing your opinion at Thanksgiving dinners. That’s not what your friends and family are there for.

The problem comes when "charity" becomes mandatory and enforced by the power of government.
Give us an example, please.

Yes it is, and luckily Dolly Parton is strong enough to resist it. I don’t mind entertainers talking about politics because it’s a free country, but I do wonder why Hollywood studios don’t try to discourage people from alienating people. It seems like a poor business model.

Only a tiny few of all the working actors in Hollywood talk politics on TV. here are far, far, more who do not.

But no business can ever dictate what an employee says or not politically. That's violating someone's rights if any business does it.

Who's to say it's bad practice if it happens? Lots of films need all the exposure they can get, and flacking them on TV, even if politics rears its ugly head, is still good advertising. For eery person who doesn't like an actor's politics, there's another who does.

You know, I am so tired of all the pontificating by posters such as this one. As if they even know anything about which they preach. Most legendary country stars around the same age of Dolly Parton are not born with a silver spoon.

For example. Dolly Parton born in a one room cabin, the 4th of 12 children in 1946. Daughter of a sharecropper. ( McGowgdog do you even know what that is?)
